what are some tricks you guys have learned hunting out of a ground blind? bought or built? food? scent? thanks for any help

What are you hunting? Are you hunting a water hole? I have always preferred a treestand to a ground blind no matter what. Even hunting antelope I'd rather be in a windmill than a ground blind. It does help contain some scent but definitely not fool proof and it really really limits your visibility which is the part I hate about it. I'd almost rather hunt from the ground with nothing, than hunt from a store bought ground blind.

i am hunting elk over water for the first part of the hunt. i have a pop up blind for backup but i prefer to build my own for now. theres not really any place to for a tree stand. im just worrying about concealing my scent. mainly food as ill be sitting in it all day. sun up to sun down

Downwind or crosswind side of the blind should give you a lot of options if you have an idea where the elk are coming from...

I build brush ground blinds every year. I've found using burlap plugs all the "holes" the elk look through for movement. I put brush on both sides to create shadows on the burlap regardless of the position of the sun. I've had guides with clients and other hunters walk within 15 feet without ever seeing me until I make my presence known.

I love ground blinds keep's me mobile so I can hurry and get out and go after the animals that I'm hunting

I use to make my own ground blind and brush it in really well but 3 thing happen your scent can get scatter all over the place Especially when you have swirling winds like the mountains I hunt because there is no way to keep it in and I had elk and deer coming in right before the hunt started as soon as I sit it they would not come in or they stayed out of bow range but as soon as I wasn't sitting it they would show up

Then you have to worry about people seeing the homemade bling and they new they had a place to hunt and they knew that somebody was hunting it or it was a good spot I have had people be in there when I showed up it's public land and they have every right to be there just as much as me

Then you should tear it down when the season over so people don't see that somebody been hunting in there

so that's why switched to a portable ground blind it holds the scent if done properly and I can set it up a week before the hunt so the elk and deer get use to it and when my hunts over all I got to do is break it down and leave then there really no sign at all of anyone being in there and I've never had anyone being in my blind since.

I have successfully hunted archery antelope in Nevada and California in ground blinds over water they had no idea I was there. Set up blind a week before so they had time to get used to it I did brush them out and used sent killer
