I was lucky enough to draw a fall bear tag for Prince of Wales. I am a traditional bowhunter and plan on a DIY hunt. Would also like to deer hunt if time allows. Any info or tips would be appreciated.

I think setting up and waiting (maybe in some sort of blind) on known bear feeding areas on streams where the bears are feeding on the pink salmon would be key because you are using a bow.

I'd like to hear how that goes. I'm going to put in for that tag this year in hopes of doing a bear/deer combo next September.

Find evidence of bears feeding on salmon and wait. I believe a few years ago they put a ton of new restrictions on NR hunters (for good reason) making it very hard to hunt DIY because of access regs right?

I have had friends hunt fall before new regs, I hunted spring. Nice place. Lots of deer.

There are no real restrictions for NR hunters. I think the ones you are talking about were lifted. Had a friend hunt there last fall and had 32 bears under 20 yards
on a DIY hunt.

ahh good, have not followed it. Find signs of feeding bears and wait, fairly straight forward. Staney creek cabin might be a good location. Good luck!

You could rent the cabin and hunt right out of it! Saw a few below the cabin last Fall.

My son and I use to guide for bears on POW and Kuiu. On our off days we'd always rented the forest service cabin on Control Lake. Most of the other cabins on POW are fly-in or hike-in cabins.

Jim I have a fellow Trad guy going for the same unit Mnt. Goat here----

May he reach out to you if he draws?

Not that he will replace your Utah State Tradbow Mnt. Goat book #1.

PS Be very careful with the Blow-hio rifle hunter intel...

Awesome hunt and video! Congrats. Are those Muck boots that you wore during the hunt? If so, did you like them? Mine rub my calf and hurt, but I plan to wear thicker socks next time.

The boot I was wearing are Cabela's Instict. They go from knee high to hip boots. They have worked great for the lasy 3 years for moose to bear hunting. I have heard thought that they are no longer available.

Cool video! That's a good looking bear. The hide was looking thick for an early fall bear, that's great!

Were you hunting on Staney Creek? What town did you stay in?

I watched your video again this morning. I think it's great you got this bear with a traditional setup!

Just curious how big he ended up measuring out. Right around 6 ft I'm guessing?
