looking for some info on good packable rain gear I don't get a lot of rain where I hunt but once in a while it messes up a good hunt . I have checked out Cabelas rain gear was looking at buying KUIU Teton . Don't want to blow a bunch of $$ on something that may only take up space in my back pack

I have a Gamehide reversible camo rain jacket that works fine for me. I can't remember what the model name is. I got it cheap at #####'s Sporting Goods about 5 years ago. It doesn't take up much space and it has been a lifesaver on a couple of occasions.

just sayin...mh

We use the Cabela's MTO50 packable rain jacket light enough to wear in all conditions or just throw in your backpack.

Hey if you're just looking for something to sit out a thunderstorm, a large heavy duty trash bag works great. Tear a place to stick your face out, and enjoy the storm. It blocks all water and the wind. If you want something to hunt in, never mind. :)

OLDHORNHUNTER,
I just ordered a FL Stormtight Jacket in ASAT. I think the Core4 Torent jacket is a bit cheeper and pretty quiet I'm told. I like the First Lite product and will post a review once I have used it a few times. I once purchased a Kryptic rain coat and returned it because it was too loud for my tastes. Have some Sitka pants (used)that pack real small, are quiet, but still pricey even though second hand.
Good Luck

Thanks for the update FL has some good stuff I have some old base layer wool I still wear when its real cold outside. I think I have decided to go with the KUIU Teton gear So far every Piece of KUIU gear I have used has been TOP of the LINE gear !!

Have you ever heard of Frogg Toggs? Very very very light and packable, depending on how durable a suit you are looking for they range in price from 15 bucks clear up to over a hundred. I got a full suit for 25 bucks because I only hunt the rain when I get caught in it, if it was something I did all the time I would have invested a little more but I just use it in a pinch and it keeps me dry.

thanks for your reply & YES I actually have a set of Froggs in my trucks & 4 wheeler boxes I did not buy any rain gear Good thing did NOT have a single drop of rain all of archery season I did find some Froggs at Walmart in their sporting goods dept they were around $20 weighed around 9 ounces figured next time I was in I would grab a pair & throw in my pack !! I too don't see the sense of paying a couple hundred bucks for something u may Only use Once or Twice a season !!

Core4 Torrent. Light, packable, breathes well while waterproof. W pit zips, several pockets, hood, 2 way zipper is it a full-function jacket that breathes and is totally waterproof. That makes it a great outer layer for early season, even in dry weather. I use it as outer layer early and late in the day for Sept. archery hunts, and it is the only extra layer in my pack for summer scouting, hikes, fishing. Topnotch quality and warranty.

Hornhunter I picked up some kuiu Teton with that 30 percent off sale looks real light and durable, only thing missing is pit zips.

Disclaimer RE warranty: C4E is outta business. Camofire has Torrent jackets and pants today and fairly often, under $70.

I bought a set of kings camo rain jacket and pants from camo fire, don't remember the style but they suck. Not quiet and defiantly don't breath, I would have been better off going to walmart and buying their cheap stuff.

For light weight and packability the Marmot Precip jacket is hard to beat. Inhave a Kuiu yukon for heavier duty but it is much bulkier.

I have the Sitka packable rain jacket and love it but mainly use it as a shell over insulation when it gets cold or if the wind is going Mach 10. My friend has Frogg Togs, WAY less money, works like a charm. Another guy bought the Cabelas stuff, also works great for occasional rain shower. When/if I buy again I'm going Frogg Togs. My 2 cents.

I use the marmot precip too. We get about 80+ inches of rain per year and our raingear gets used all the time. So far so good & its really light. The color selection isn't great but its perfect for the backpack. You can get the set for under $180.00 if you shop around.
