Surrendering A Permit

If I'm reading the Hunt'in Fool and the UT regs right you can surrender a LE permit up to 30 days prior to the hunt and get your bonus points reinstated, one for this year and your money back.

This doesn't seem like it is correct, there would be no downside for higher point holders not to draw a tag then turn it back if they change their mind. not even out the tag fee ?

is this right ?

wow. so some guy with pile of points could draw Beaver every year and turn it back until he scouts the bull he wants .

This makes it even tougher on those of us just out of reach of the tag we want. Utah has to be the only state you can do this in.

It's a lot better than Wyoming.Drew a migratory deer tag after 6 years 3 months before for the hunt They sent me a letter and said are deer numbers are down you're hunt will start a month early.Hunted my azz for 9 days seen about 30 deer and 3 buck, ate tag soup. I would of loved to turn that tag back but not in Wyoming. They screwed me bad.

As long as you turn the tag into the UDWR sooner than 30 before the hunt, your tag fee is retained.
There are always good reasons to turn back tags: a lost job, a conflicting hunt in another state, wildfires in the area, etc. But I think returning a tag closer than 30 days before the hunt should be eliminated, regardless of the tag fee issue. I'm sure a good percentage of late returned tags in Utah don't get used because they are offered too late for people to accept them.
I also think returned LE tags from top point holders should be offered to next in line top point holders, rather than going out randomly. (very slightly helping point creep?)

Turn the Tag Back with 30 Days or more time Left before the Hunt Starts & Get Your Money back!

Turn the Tag Back with less than 30 Days left before the Hunt starts & You'll Need a Dr.'s Note to get your money back!

Where am I Wrong?

Glad to see you corrected yourself.

The point was not about the money I don't have enough points to do much damage if I wanted to . the point is a few high point holders could draw all the point tags every year and turn them back at no cost . essentially locking up the high point draws for years if their guides don't find what they want close to the road. I have no idea how big of problem this is but obviously its going to happen to some degree.

I didn't expect you to get it.

If the next in line or someone close at the same points takes it, the point pool is still getting knocked down.

Good hell don't start giving people ideas
What has happened to hunting some times it makes me sick what people come up with take the dang tag be thankful and go hunt if you draw.

Got it Long before now dude!

About 4-5 Years ago they Claimed most of the LE Elk Max Points Holders would be knocked out!

Well!

Here We are!

Still Quite a few with Max!

Playin the Game to Their Advantage!

But Like littleBig said above if You Noticed?

These Guys Playin everything to their Advantage Turn their Tags Back & then them Tags are offered to Points Holders that are usually not sitting on Max Points!

One More Reason Max Point Holders are not Disappearing as Quick as they should!

Not only do I get it!

I've got it for several years!

My wife drew bebo late elk last year. when the fire hit I called d.w.r./$.f.w. and she would have got her points back but
The $800 for the tag would have been lost is straight up what they told me!

Was it less than 30 days from opening day ?

Maybe it's not a big problem I don't know. but I know a guy who's done it twice that's why I asked. I see no reason for him not to keep doing it now it makes sense.

Since when did hunting become a guaranteed kill?

You draw a tag, you go. I get it about turning in a tag with things like a legitimate illness, accident, or death in a family. But to turn it in because you don't find the one you want or deserve while scouting?

Talk about entitlement...

My brother turned in a bookcliff archery elk tag a few years ago he had also drawn a Nevada archery tag and he had just started a new job so he had to pick one,Nevada keeps the tag fee no matter when you turn it back so Nevada it was.

Know a Doctor?
Get a note..get refund, a point and all points back ..plus hunt a week surrender tag.. it's all good.

Same thing on the Nine Mile Buffalo.Hunt all season if you didn't kill a buffalo you get your points back, not sure on their money

yo get money or points back not both unless its an emergency then you may get both but highly doubtful
