Paunsagunt conservation tags have been bringing high dollars at auctions. Over $30k and up to $35k so far at MDF & SFW banquets.
Oak Creek tag brought in $34k last night at Utah County SFW.
Elk tags appear to be bringing what they normally do.
Good economy, excellent winter snowpack...

Piss on $.f.w.

Maybe I will get one for the regular non-resident price I think it's $568.
I am hoping to draw the nonresident archery bonus tag on the Pauns 22 points

My son is in for the Oak Creek rifle tag he has a shot at that bonus tag With 20 nonresident points.

I sure am glad the application deadline has passed.

Is it possible that Oak Creek tag goes for so much because WLH operates in that area?
Just a thought.

It's possible, but WLH operates in several unit's.

>It's possible because Oak Creek was

Yes it was indeed.
And it has historically kicked some tremendous bucks, and obviously still has something brewing for 2019.

Regardless of what guides or Outfitters brand a public land unit as Theirs, it remains "Ours".

For the guides it was but not so good for the average Joe. I know one of my neighbors wishes he had his 18 points back.

They Call the Shooter in when the Time is Right!

So Ridge?

Can We Compete with that?

I Know I can't!

They've turned everything in this World to being BIG Money Related!

That's pretty much how I see it too

I agree as well. But why do you care?

I watched a vid Bess of you on Wasatch. Shot hits, young kids reaction is awesome. You see family pics like Muley73 or Tikka all over(I keep my kids pics off social media as much as possible, damn Russians).
Compare those to Denny Austad on AI. Or other dudes who dropped 6 figures.

Ill be happy as he'll for u if u draw. After all these years reading your stuff, your joy will mean much more than richy rich who does it several times a year)Yes I said something nice)

Hey bess, if it makes you feel better I'm not even old enough to apply for as many elk points as you have now.

I live on the Oak Creek unit and there are a lot more tags issued than there are 180" bucks. They kill a few whoppers every year, but I also see a lot of 160" deer killed every year.

Yep, and with the all the publicity it's getting, it'll be shot out in no time......as will Vernon.

Oak Creek is really that bad? if it is the guy who paid 39k for it must have been talking to the same people I did.

If, and that's a big IF, nobody new jumps in with a bunch of points my wife has a real chance at drawing the NR tag.

Now you got me wondering if I screwed up.

Be prepared for a tough hunt.
Most of the bigger bucks are far from the roads.
I've wanted the unit to be great as much as anyone.
I've scouted it about a dozen different days in the last couple years, including a couple days in mid-November.
I've only been able to find one 180"+ buck and a couple others in the 170" class range.
Most of the bucks doing the breeding in November were in the 130-160" class range.
I'm now thinking of different options to spend my 12+ points down the road.
One of my neighbors hunted it last year with his 18 points and ended up shooting a 24-25" wide 140" class buck about mid week because that was the best he could find.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-28-19 AT 08:19AM (MST)[p]That doesn't sound like a tag worth 34k, or 21 points.

We might be turning that one back if she draws it. thanks for the heads up.

Dude, it is a tough hunt. That being said there are some 200:+ plus brutes on the unit including an upper level buck or two. I'd hire an outfitter asap. NORTH RIM OulUTFITTERS has their pulse on some giants. I can get you info if she draws.
Antler development will be outstanding this year

Ocho
If your wife is in for the Oakcreek rifle tag with 21 points you will draw the bonus tag ahead of us. My son is in for it with 20 points. Please let me know. It will change my application strategy in Nevada. If you're seriously considering turning that tag back in he may have a shot at picking it up as the alternate.
Thanks

14.5 for a lion tag on the Wasatch?
Good grief!?

Yes sir that's what I thought too

Very rarely can logic be used to explain prices for auction tags. Otherwise, for the lion tag mentioned, you'd stand back and rationalize that for the price paid plus the expected outfitter cost, you could cover at least 3 complete outfitted lion hunts elsewhere, most likely for an equal-size cat, and you'd elect to go that route instead.

In reality what you have in play at auction is a combination of 1) at least two people having other specific reasons to want to hunt that unit, and 2) bidders for which 15 grand is merely pocket change, and 3) a touch of auction fever, and 4) possibly some ego coming into play. And that's the beauty (for the seller) of how auctions work.
