There were a couple things I noticed while glancing at the tag numbers last night. The first one is that I should have put in for Kaiparowits West Desert Sheep, because they doubled the tags from six to twelve.
Another thing that caught my eye is the new cow elk hunt on the Oak Creek mountains. They are issuing 100 tags for that and I highly doubt there are 100 cows on the unit.
With all the new back to back hunts, I think I counted five consecutive cow elk hunts on the Southwest desert. It is apparent this state does not care for the health of wildlife. These animals are run ragged from August to January. The division should be charged with Wildlife Harassment. The way this state counts herd numbers is less accurate than if we threw darts at numbers on a wall. Too bad State government is above the law and they can't be held accountable.
