Left over tags

No need to feel stupid! I'm not crazy about the new website either. I had to use the website search by typing "leftover permits". It won't let you drag any of the items from below the search and most of the time the page you're looking for is missing. I just got lucky! And I typed in the full link.

Edited: Amy says they are still working on the update, so it should get better.

There are a lot of youth archery tags left over. Can anyone tell me what % of tags are allocated for youth? I can track that information down but I figured EFA or someone else would know the answer off of the top of their head.

Killer,
I believe these youth archery tags are sold completely separate from the draw with the idea that most youth will apply for the any weapon tag. The any weapon tag allows them to hunt all 3 seasons. However, if they don't draw it, they still gain a preference point and can still get one of these youth archery tags OTC and still hunt. Even the extended.
It's just more opportunity for the kids

The remaining tags left over after the draw will get purchased.

The General-season bull elk permits and the Youth archery general-season deer permits listed ARE NOT PART OF THE DRAW! They are over-the-counter first come, first served permits that would be/will be sold regardless of the draw results.

That leaves only the "Remaining general-season buck deer permits that are leftover DRAW permits.

And they will be sold for the following reasons:

1-DWR needs the money.
2-It gives those who didn't draw a permit a second chance.
3-There is no $10 application fee.
4-Current waiting periods do not apply.
5-DWR needs the money.
6-Preference points are not lost. (Bonus points (LE & OIL) are used.)
7-Archery hunters can hunt the Archery Extended hunts.
8-The DWR is trying to recruit more primitive weapon hunters in order to provide more opportunity with less impact on the herds.
9-DWR needs the money.
10-Unsold general-season archery deer permits convert to OTC first come, first served general-season muzzleloader permits on Sep.16.
11-Unsold general-season muzzleloader permits convert to OTC first come, first served any weapon permits on Oct 4.
12-Did I mention DWR NEEDS the money?

Yes, there's a reason (or reasons) those tags are left over, but it's not always just because they aren't wanted at the time of the draw.
