Long time MMer, putting out the word.

My son drew this year, love any info on private land access or any other area?s you would like to share. He?s 17 and has had spike / cow tags but thus far has not closed the deal. Would be nice to put some horn on the ground.

PM or post,
Steve

Hopefully we don't have a late rut due to heat again. My 13 y/o drew last year and very little rut activity. I did manage to cow call a good 5x6 in to 220 yards but due to circumstances he had a tough shot and missed. It was super hot last year. PM sent on area.

I hear ya on the heat / late rut. 2 of my boys drew last year. My 17 year old was the starting QB for the high school and ate his tag. I spent 4 days with my 14 year old. We found elk each day but could not get them to talk. The ones we found we junped out of the nastiest dead fall. We couldn't get a shot opportunity jumping them that way. On the last morning we heard our first bugle but scared the herd when we gave chase. One thing I didn't realize until I put in for tags this year is the youth anybull tags are once in a lifetime draws. I wouldn't trade the 4 days alone with my boy but it would have been nice to be successful. Make the most of your chance.

If you spend even one day looking around before the season starts it shouldn't be hard to find a decent bull. This is one of the easiest hunts there is if you put in a little pre hunt work.

Well I'm an elk hunter, in my blood, so any reason to look for elk and help a kid shoot his first I'm game for that. We will do our homework online and scouting.

Thanks for the feedback thus far. I've pulled the mm archives and know several of common spots being listed - spent some time on the south slope and parts of the north, bow and mz hunted it.

I've wondered on the north how close they are to the line before pushing into WY and south side same for the reservation lands. Could be good to come in early before all the rifles kick off on the general, but younger bulls.

Love pointers for Zion and 9 Mile - PMs.

Also, any kid pics with dad (or mom) on the youth I'm sure anyone reading would enjoy - I would.
