Hi!. Found out I drew this tag. Wife and I are planning on visiting the area and looking for some general info. I plan on bringing my toyhauler to camp in and explore. Divide Road seems to be the place to be. Questions are: places to park the trailer near my hunting areas. Road conditions? (Will be coming from I70 east towards Grand Junction). Nearest places to get gas once I get up on the divide road. Lastly, do the deer generally stay in the same places as when archery season is over. Thanks

I hunted the archery season down there a few years ago. I noticed all the deer were on top the first week. I went back at the end of the hunt and most the bigger bucks had moved down a little. There were still deer on top but not near as many.

If you are coming off of I-70, you are probably wanting to enter the Books Via Hay Canyon. I can tell you I would not be hauling my Toy Hauler up that road. If you come in through Ouray, the road is paved almost all the way to the divide road.

+1 on not pulling a trailer up hay canyon or anywhere off of I-70 unless you want a pucker factor of +100 ? Go through Ouray on the north end with the paved road.

Make sure to take some gas cans with you. There are no services anywhere close by. Your nearest gas is on I-70 to the south or Fort Duchesne/Roosevelt/Vernal to the north.

It's Really not that Far back in to Town if you're headed North!

You Can Run that New Road at 100 MPH!

Un-like the Old Road!:D

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

I had 10 non res points and if I remember this wasn't my first choice. At least I believe that. I've had other people tell me not tow the toyhauler from I 70 and up. Ouray looks like the way I'll go when I tow it. Thanks to all of you for this info. Much appreciated.

I drew this tag a few years ago and had a fantastic hunt. I hunted solo in the roadless section out of Thompson. If interested in info there Ill gladly share as I will probably never draw the tag again.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-11-19 AT 10:19AM (MST)[p]Well, my hunt is over and I took a small buck the last day. (I like deer meat). This hunt was allot harder than I expected. I want to thank all that gave me trailer directions. I came in from Ouray. Hay canyon was way too narrow and the dips in the road would have bottomed out my trailer coming in from I-70. I arrived on Sunday to scout a few days early. Saw lots of people. I started out hunting McCook Ridge/Tom Patterson/Atchee ridge. Went up there opening of archery to scout to see where everyone was and trailer locations. Saw some real nice deer in my 3 days. Like everyone said plenty of small 4x4's. I hunted hard and scouted on my hunt. Took my spotting scope and sat the ridges looking for deer or do I mean elk. Saw some real nice bulls but no nice bucks. Really didn't see allot of bucks during my hunt. Talked to other hunters and they were seeing what I was seeing, nothing! I hiked back into areas that others weren't in. Just allot of nice hikes. After 3 days of hunting I moved to another area. While parked I saw 4-5 hunters coming out with deer on the trucks. Not the quality I figurered people would take. Too each there own. I liked the unit real well but finally said the next meat buck that shows itself is going home in my cooler. Last morning I took a small 3x3. Hope to draw the tag again. Maybe this time I'll see some nice bucks. Didn't hunt the roadless, plenty of other places to hunt. Thanks again for all that helped.
