Going on our first scouting trip to Book Cliffs ended up with a tow truck as my drive line broke and had to be towed. (Luckily I was not too deep into the no cell phone zone).

Now you know why I picked my handle; "stilltrying"

That stinks! You?ll find the big one on the next trip.

I like the sound of that boot! I'm licking my chops in anticipation of getting to spend time in the books! We will be launching from the ten mile knoll area if you need help with anything. Hunting the first 10 days of the season. Send me a pm for any info.

Good you made it without any truck issues, sounds like it may be a good year.

No tag in my pocket, but I will be out on the Book Cliff unit from September 12th-19th. Anyone need any help scouting, hanging out at night around the fire or breaking down and packing anything out let me know. Will let you all know what I see. if needed.

Have one friend with late bison cow tag, one with a muzzleloader buck tag that we will be doing some scouting for while we are out with a buddy who's wife has a limited bull tag that we will be hunting for.

Good luck to all.

Book Cliffs Update - This was one trip I thought we would never see; truck troubles, health issues for both me and my wife combined the fact that we were going it alone as others had commitments. Arrived the day before the hunt, found about 60 deer, 6-8 bucks one of which was a decent buck. We ended up hunting some water we found the night before, as we approached the water at first light.......we spotted a truck already parked by the water. We decided to head down a canyon that paralleled the water as we saw deer going back and forth into this canyon the night before. We went into the canyon and started glassing....of course I found about a dozen does and while I was watching them my wife said she spotted a buck up the canyon. (We both setup the spotting scope as the buck had us pegged but was not moving). We debated back and forth and finally decided to take a shot (410 yards). My wife who had never shot a deer before, setup and asked if I was ok if she shot.......I told her when she was ready. (As she shot I saw the buck hunker up and tip over). Never seen her that excited as she yelled and screamed and said I want to do this again.

She was so excited and still is and can't wait to do it again. The buck was a nice 4 x 4, nothing that would score great......but my wife doesn't even know anything about scoring a buck only that it will look good as a euro mount in our house.

Thanks to those few who helped me out with the hunt, I will pass it on.
