Hey all,
I am looking to go on a hunt in 2019. Looking to put one on the wall. Doesnt need to be a 200" monster either. Other than knowing there are "none" in Utah, that is about it. I would like to keep it around or under $2K. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Do I need to draw a tag or can I buy a tag?? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Are you looking for a $2,000 guided hunt or $2,000 for total hunt cost including transportation and any lodging needs?

For whitetail, check out Iowa and Illinois. There are some awesome pics on here and other websites. Outfitted for $2K won't happen. Expect about 2-3X that.

I dont mind paying around $2K for the hunt. Not including travel and lodging. I am hearing good things about affordable hunts in Kansas.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-07-17 AT 07:43PM (MST)[p]I'm not trying to be a downer here.... But I would really question the quality of the $2000.00 Outfitted hunt in Kansas, Self guided...Maybe.... Not saying its not possible to find a guided hunt for 2000....but I'm a skeptic on that. The reason I'm a skeptic is because the good outfitters in Kansas charge a lot more and have no problem getting it. Especially the last week of Oct and the first 2 weeks of November. Those are your best dates for getting a good buck. There are other states other than Kansas you may want to look at too, Illinois(outside the golden triangle), Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky where you may be able to stay "somewhat" close to your budget. Once you narrow down a state ask the guys on here... lots of good knowledge. Good luck.

$2K will get ya on some leases, BUT killing a huge buck on those leases slim and none.
Good leases cost money and they will have a trophy fee to add at the end if you kill a good one.

A good friend of mine has 1,000 acres in Northern Missouri. He sets up a couple people each year on self-guided hunts. Tags are $225 over-the-counter. I would recommend archery late October or early November. This is exactly what you describe you are looking for, with chances at a world class caliber deer, with most being in the 120-140" range. The deer hunting is some of the best, most affordable hunting in the country for whitetail.

Go on the net and check out the outfitters, most want $3000.00 - $4000.00 for a 5 day hunt with some charging a $1000.00 fee for any deer 125" or under. I think you might be better off finding some walk in areas and get to know some land owners, just my opinion.

Kansas has some great walk-in land DIY is possible. And right time right place 140 class++ can walk by. 2k guided will not get you much these days spend time and money researching.

A lease is not necessary, neither is guide in most Midwestern states depending on what your goal is and what your hunt dates want to be. Last week in October first two weeks in November will offer you all the rut action you can handle with a bow. If you want to hunt with a gun during the Rut, Minnesota's firearms opener is November 4. Cheap tags at $165 and $1000 can get you access to a lot of land and there are large, quality chunks of public.

I've seen slammer whitetails on public ground in Kansas, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Nebraska. If you're looking to bowhunt, you have some real opportunity in any of those states.

I run some hunts on my Personal Lease in Old Mexico that will get you on a deer for 2000.00 plus a tag no problem. It all depends on what your looking for. Good Luck on your hunt
