Looking for a deer in the 200 class non-typical, got the Govenors Tag. Don't know where to go in unit 61. Any suggestions please...

Thank you

Marcus

Pick a unit with a good history and start putting on some miles. Deer are moving all hours of the day now and will continue to do so. If you are in need of some specifics send me a PM and I'll see what we can do. I am by no means an expert for the entire state but I do have some pretty fair knowledge of some of the NW corner units and some of the habits of the deer herd.

If I had the Governors tag, I assure you that unit 61 would not be on the top of my list of places to hunt for a large non-typ.

Tks, I was going by that amount of points it takes to get a late season tag there and it requires more than unit 21. I though it might be a good unit.

Tks for the info, talked to a guy that said he saw some big one's earlier in the season there.

I am still looking for a buck the size worth hunting for. I regret to admit I have had no luck yet.Not for lack of looking. The rut is just starting and have seen several 150 to 180 size bucks nosing around the does.Maybe in the next couple of weeks one might show. good luck

So?

How many Governor/Etc Tags are there in Colorado that let you hunt Mule deer till December?

If you purchased the auction tag then you would have people coming out of the woodwork to help. Biggest buck I have heard of or seen is on private land in unit 65. Don't bother pm'ing me cause that's all I know and the ranch owner will want plenty of green to step on his land.

I have a little bit of help right now, but no one has really seen anything big yet.

Tks, won the tag in a raffle, If you hear the name of the ranch or town I would greatly appreciate any info you hear about it.

Thank you

You sure you're not lost in NorthEastern Utah since you're not seeing anything?

Marcus ended up scoring on a great buck sunday morning. I will let marcus post pictures along with the story. This truly is a great story in what it took to make this all come together and how hard we worked to make it happen on the last morning marcus. Couldn't of happened to a better a guy and we as locals are sure glad this deer is not going home to utah.. I'll will fill you in that this buck is large typical and has an outside spread of 33 inches.

Nice, glad he was able to connect on a good buck. Now how about some pics for us Utah boys?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-14-11 AT 08:49PM (MST)[p]Excuse me guys and fellow utah residents. I was referring to a select group from utah whos made an enterprise out of the state's deer.

lol just wondering. And yes I agree with your last post and im a utard.
Great deer and hopefully we get to hear a story.

Gotta be 30"-32" Wide huh?

Nice!

And Coloradoboy, easy with the TARD comments!:D

NICE....

Next year I win that tag!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice buck. It's ironical that you guys are praising the killing of a buck in December on this thread, and demonizing the practice on the other thread.

+1 thank you!!! Some real class acts on this site.
By the way Marcus great buck!!

Im not from Utah, but just saying......You know what would be real ironic? If you as tendrfoot outfitters took payment for this deer and then complained about someone else doing the same thing....even if they are from the state of Utardia!

+1 I thought ColoradoBoy was on here a few months back complaining about governors tags and how he would never guide for one

I'll clear this up for you all.

1. I will not guide Auction type tags- thats mossbacks deal and I don't care to get caught up in that bs and be the bad guy. Marcus's tag was a raffle 25 dollar deal as most of you know.

2. This was NOT a payed guided hunt. I helped marcus out of my own pocket, my own time. I love to chase big mule and knew of a few and I wanted to help an average hard working guy who had a chance of a lifetime out.

>Oh so because he spent 25
>dollars instead of 250,000 you
>can justify guiding him.

I'd say there's one hell of a difference.

I swear people must drink a big batch of haterade before they get on their computer. I don't get why people criticize a hunter helping a fellow hunter. Justify not guiding auction tags?? I don't believe in "finders fees" "trophy fees" and all that other bs. Im a hunter not a business man in camo. I hunt and guide because its what I love to do not to fatten my wallet. Last time I checked most guides don't drive mercedes and live on the golf course. Marcus is a down to earth, hardworking guy who got down right lucky and pulled a tag that 99.9 percent of us common guys will never see in our lifetime and he needed help. Put yourself in his shoes when you live a thousand miles away, you have a week to hunt and can't afford mossback's insane prices... You know what I'll lend my help to guy like that any day. Im a 20 year old kid that loves to hunt and just getting to be part of this was good enough for me and seeing his face when he walked up on that deer made it all worth it. Im not sure about you guys but getting to be part of a dream come true is pretty special in my opinion.

No kiddin' eh...seems like there's more than a few fellers on the CO forum with sticks firmly planted up their arses

Don't worry about it man, it's just regular, cheap, slapstick junkshow crap if ya look at it for what it really is :)

real nice deer, y'all did good

LAST EDITED ON Dec-17-11 AT 07:41AM (MST)[p]Good to you colo boy!!

They sell the hater aid once a 20 yr old kid helps a normal guy get a bigger buck (in a week no less).. Than the high paid fence jumpin guides from the fair and greatest state of all states - utah!! :). Hahahahah...

I think it is great - Co dont let the haters get ya down. Some guys on here get super jealous of guys like you who do it right (no fence jumpin or shootin town bucks with this guy) and are rewarded with a big buck.

Watch out boys as from what I have seen this kid is for real and I bet it was fun for him to help a normal guy out.

So good to you Co boy! Just remember that haters are goin to hate - take it as a sign of respect. It is refreshing to see someone just help out - not bend the rules or ask a huge fee but just help a guy out.

Good job CO and Marcus way to get it done, don't let jealous people take away from the experience.

CO I understand completely where you are coming from in your last post, not even close to the same as what Moss and others do. You in no way have devalued what it's all about. I think they do all the time with finder fees and big money tags and town bucks.

Bill

Look out Forkie, FTW is watching us!

Another muley lover helping out a guy that won the lottery, sounds good to me. Congrats on a great buck guys. Don't let the haters bring you down, thanks for sharing.

Nice buck there guys. Don't let the needle diks on this site get you down. I think some on here think bad mouthing others on the computer makes their peckers grow. You still after a merriams co-boy? One good turn deserves another.

Hell of a buck mabundis, Glad it all worked out for you. Coloradoboy, sounds like your a class act. Thanks for posting the pics. Just ignore the jealaters.

Coloradoboy, you've helped restore my faith in the hunting scene. I have to admit I've slowly became very jaded about the direction hunting in this country is headed - which appears to be so focused on the commercialism of hunting. All I can say is thanks for doing what you did for this guy and for simply caring and helping for the sake of caring and helping. You are a fine example of what we should all be striving for!

Awesome deal all around. Great buck and a great job with the helping of another hunter. Hats off to ya.

Coloradoboy. Your welcome in my camp any time. Esply if I ever draw in Colorado;). The whole hunting scene needs guys like you who make it about the hunts and friendships made. Not the kills and mag covers
Congrats on a good hunt. You made a real friend for life. Not just a season

LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-11 AT 01:06AM (MST)[p]I figure i'll fill you guys in on how this hunt went about since I havent been able to get Marcus to.
After I finished up my guiding season, I returned home and began going out doing a little coyote calling along with videoing some deer. I had talked to Marcus off and on through out the year and told him I would lend him my help if he was ever in my neck of the woods. Come December I'd been watching some good bucks and spending about every day running around in the hills until my airport job started up on the 16th. I called up Marcus one day on a whim figuring he'd already been out hunting only to find out he had yet to leave California and had yet to have a set plan. Being I knew of a couple good bucks and some areas that historically held them I told him to get out to Colorado asap and that I'd hunt with him being I had time to kill. Low and behold Marcus had truck problems getting out here and it cost us a total of 4 days of hunting which left 6 days total to hunt. We looked over alot of bucks (more than I can estimate accurately) in those 6 days and shared a lot of good times and few stories of past hunts. The buck we initially wanted disappeared on me two days before Marcus was able to get out and we spent nearly every minute of legal shooting light of 5 days looking for him. On the 6 and final day we were down to crunch time and man the pressure was on Marcus. At first light we began seeing deer and out of no where a bruiser of typical came cruising across a sage flat across the valley. After evaluating him through the spotting scope Marcus made the decision he was it and we took off after him. We finally caught up to the buck as he was just about to crest over a ridge with a doe and Marcus made a perfect shot at 487 yards and the deal was sealed. I dont care to start throwing scores around because a score never sits well with anyone around here it seems but I will say his furthest outside spread is 33 inches.

Thats a great buck. My guess is he is just short of 200" because of his short MB's. 197 Am i close?????

Nice story ColoBoy, you epitomize the true spirit of hunting and good deeds never go recognized! Well done!

Colorado boy. Thanks for the pictures and write up. Great to see some people in this country still care about others and are willing to help a fellow hunter out.

Since the correct score will receive a new Ford 150.... I'll lay claim to 196 5/8.

Outstanding buck!! Glad to see someone help out a guy with a tag of a lifetime. I definitely like the $25.00 part.

hell of a buck, congrats to the hunter.

The voices in my head may not be real, but they have
some good ideas!
