Colorado 3rd season deer

Hello all,

I am looking for a little help and input for a 3rd season deer hunt this upsomming fall. I want to take my dad hunting in Colorado, as he's never hunted out of state. I was looking into units 33 and 15 since they can be drawn on 0 points. I have some questions reguarding both, and hopfully I can get some input from some people that have been in the areas.

It looks as though unit 33 is more steep with canyons running off of plateau tops and lots of change in elevation. 15 looks like there is more sagebrush country especially up in the north western part of the unit. I'm I correct in this? Does either unit lend itself better for glassing? I know 3rd season will have lots of other hunters and 15 looks like it has more roads which could provide more access, where 33 seems to have less roads which would be better for getting away from extreme crowds. Does weather make either unit difficult to get around in? We are not afraid of a little hiking so that doesn't bother us. I am mostly just looking for a little input as I have not been to either unit and won't be able to get out there due to work restrictions. Also, does one unit lend itself better for renting a cabin for the season? I know rifle is right in unit 33, and oak creek seems to be in 15. Does one town have more potential for accommodations?

Thank you for any input, I'm just trying to narrow down a unit to put in for and then continue more e-scouting! I'm also open to other unit suggestions. Thanks for the help!

Both can be tough hunts... I'd probably hunt 15 if I had to choose between the two. Both are a circus within a zoo come 3rd rifle.

From what I understand it sounds like most 3rd season hunts are pretty packed with people. That's ok though, I'm just trying to have a good time out looking for deer!....... Do you think that 15 has better terrain for glassing then The_Coloradoboy?

Just another suggestion on units requiring zero pts. You might want to not look at last years data but look the year before (2017) as I think that might be more accurate. Last year when the waved the upfront payment, everyone put in which threw off the normal odds. With this years additional $ requirements, I'm hoping it gets back to more normal stats but we shall see. Also you could check out toprut.com to easier display data however it will still show the 2018 data for the listing so you might wanna look at other units on the bubble! Just a thought if you're open to look at other units.

Thanks! That's a really good idea, and would have never of thought of it. I'm definitely open to any other units, I just want to get out there at that time of year and have a good time. I'll definitely go back and look at 2017 draw stats
