Easy hiking deer hunt

Hi All- I want to take my wife on a deer hunt with me this coming season but she is not in the best of shape. I am looking for a 3rd season deer tag where the terrain is not too steep and we can walk out a finger and sit and glass from in the evenings. I am not a trophy hunter so quality of deer is of no concern. I want my wife to enjoy herself and I just want to fill the tag. I hunted 33 3rd last year and I don't think that would be a good fit for my wife and what she can do. Any suggestions? What about 70? I hunted 22 several years back and I thought that type of area lends itself to what my wife can do. Please pm me if you'd like. I really appreciate any help. Thanks.

I agree, I've hunted 70 twice 3rd season. There is plenty of easy terrain with a fair amount of deer with a good chance of harvesting something if you not a trophy hunter.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-23-19 AT 08:43PM (MST)[p]70 is a guaranteed deer if quality isn't an issue, and the terrain is very tame in the country most the deer will be during 3rd season.

Unit 3 or 11 would be good if size isn't really an issue.

Unit 3 is taking a point to draw and unit 11 is taking 3 points. Both decent units to fill a tag in and easy terrain.

Awesome! Thanks for the responses guys. I really appreciate it. My wife is not a hunter....never will be. I have asked her for years to go with me but has always refused. Now that the kids are almost out of the house, she said she'd go with me. I need to keep it tame for her and ease her into it so it sounds like 70 may be the ticket. I have no points as I hunted 33 3rd last year so I am hoping I can draw a 3rd season tag with no points going in. Thanks!

LAST EDITED ON Mar-24-19 AT 11:17PM (MST)[p]Sorry to burst your bubble but you will not draw a unit 70 3rd season tag with 0 points. It took 4 points for a NR to draw last year. ? Took 1 point to draw 2nd season. You might have a shot there but is doubtful.

You might look at 72 3rd. Had a 50% shot with 0 points and might be less people put in this year. There are some not so steep sections in there that hold deer

tx- Good to know. I was looking at 70 last year but maybe I was thinking of putting in for 2nd instead of 3rd with my point. That makes sense. I will look into 72. Thanks! Thought about putting in for 33 3rd again but might not work for my wife. I don't want to road hunt either.

Milo- I don't think I can afford a landowner tag. I have 2 in college with a 3rd going in September. I would love to go back to 22. How much are landowner tags these days? $5K? Pm me if you'd like.
