since deadline is past, post what you applied for

Deer, elk, antelope, moose, sheep, goat, and a pp for bear and Turkey.

#livelikezac

PPs only. And I threw away an extra $100 on the moose draw like a chump. Meant to cancel that app, didnt realize I missed the deadline.

PP deer, elk, speedgoat, moose.

2nd choice cow elk, deer and doe pronghorn. All muzzy.

Hope to get 1 or 2 tags, if not, I'll be cougar hunting at whole foods.

Hey buffy.. any chance we put in for the same second choice deer muzzy unit?
Just an elk point besides that for me

PP for elk and unit 3rd season unit 70 for deer. Should draw 70 will be the 3rd time hunting there. I no it's tough now days but hoping to turn up a good buck with a lot of effort and a little luck.

I know this is a fun thread but I think I'll play it safe and wait till the tag is in my hand before I post it.
Good luck to everyone in the draw unless you have more points than me in for the same hunt.
Oops I probably said too much already.

50/50 on drawing near granby. A family friend has a condo in fraser. Not a glamour unit, but any excuse to get in the woods. And my family eats game meat multiple times a week. Gotta fill the freezer. You?

Man I like your odds better than mine! I had a 17% chance... which I bet much lower this year cause one of those mags. Gunny unit

First rifle elk unit 62 with 1 point. First choice bull, second choice cow. If I draw maybe third time will be the charm. Put in for deer point, will have 7.

Goat G13
Sheep S1
Moose 28
Deer preference point
Elk preference point
Antelope 87
Bear preference point

I expect to draw nothing and it will cost me $445 this year. Barf. Will closely watch how drawing odds change to determine if I pay the $100 each on points for the big 3.

Speaking of the big three: after you have 3 points, can you still put in every year for a long shot at a tag, but just not pay to get the extra point? That way you always stay at 3 but still have a shot at a tag?

Just wait till they start charging for pp's for all species. It's coming.

Yes for sure. The thing with the weighted points (points after 3) is they are just bonus points and not preference points, so the incremental value of adding one decreases the higher you go because its just more tickets in the hat. I.E the odds for you with 1 weigthed point vs 7 are a much greater difference that the odds between 7 and 14.

I'm not sure where the sweet spot is, so I bought all 3 and will see how the draw odds come out after this year before I decided what my "optimal" number is.

It also is backwards intuitively from what you would think - sheep points are worth less than other points because they have more people in that draw, having an extra bonus point in that pool increases your odds minimally vs. a smaller applicant pool.

DoeNob,

What are your odds on Moose 28? Took a few snaps of some hanging out in a neighborhood up there. But I think it's all private around the neighborhoods.

points for deer, elk and antelope

bailed on points for moose, goat and sheep

not paying $100 for a tiny increased chance to draw. have 3 + points on all three so will probably just roll the dice with that going forward

Points for elk, deer, lope, and bear. Second choice muzzy cow and bear.
Going to try to burn all my elk points next year once both my hunting buddy and I are retired

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-19 AT 06:24PM (MST)[p]As a NR I decided to pass on any points this year and probably wont apply for any in the future. I was planning on drawing a mule deer tag with the 1 point I have but decided to just buy a leftover bull or OTC rifle bull. Pretty sad it now costs a
NR almost $600 for a cow tag but you can get an OTC bull for $660.

Ouch... 44 4th season tag on your wish list?

EPIC shows apps by point total so you can get TRUE drawing odds.

in 2018 there were a total of 851 chances, based on weighted points x number of apps.

So to get your odds, you divide your number of weighted points into 851.

With the minimum points to draw you had a .12% chance. With 10 points you had a 1.18% chance. With Max points you had a 2% chance.

That said, the 2 tags in 2017 went to 5 and 6 point holders and the 2 tags in 2018 went to 5 and 7 point holders. Still a long shot no matter how many points you have.

ALL that said, I put in for about 40 tags throughout the west and all of them are pretty good. I usually pull 1-2 a year even with the long odds. Somebody has to pull it, and it cant' be you if you aren't in it!

CO Boy. Yes i have been waiting foolishly. I've had LO tags before and know the area pretty well. But I don't believe I can even draw the third season hunt with 22 points. I'm hunting CO next year no matter what. Your state is full of Kalifornicated transplants and its only a matter of time before its ran by a bunch of granola crunching hippies

On the off chance you draw G13, let me know. I killed a billy last year in G13. I'd be happy to help. I drew with 3+9 points. Good luck!

I started chasing 44/3 season 16 years ago. This year I quit and applied for a different hunt that I should draw. I would never catch up with 44 in my lifetime the way it is going.

Thanks for stating the obvious? A lot of us (including myself are leaving because of this) Don?t think you can Blame commyfornia for the point creep but seems logical.

Unit 2 archery elk. Have 1 point over the 100% draw last year so unless something crazy happens we should be good.

Deer 4th season hunt applied for with 14 points. We have a chance...

For everyone in my family and all my friends

This has been beat to death, but for those still unaware, weighted points for MSG are NOT bonus points. You get ONE random number for the draw (a number assigned, inverted, then replaced by a team of 3 people, blah blah), then they divide that by your weighted points+1. BONUS points certainly increase your chances to draw over people with fewer bonus points, but weighted preference only certainly increases your chance of drawing over the "you" who had the same random number but fewer weighted points. It's still random, with a single number, just a lower one than you might have had.
That said, they will probably change to a bonus point system after people stop buying weighted points, so everyone should keep buying points, just in case.

My son and I applied for just about every big game animal that moves in Colo! I never have a lack of things to do in the fall! Good luck to everyone!

Toprut is full of chit. There are odds are a joke. If the weighted points acted like bonus points do you honestly think there would be an opt out option? Right now the guy with 3 plus 0 has the same odds of the guy with 3 plus max to draw the lowest random number. The weighted points give you no advantage of your initial random number, tile selection or reversal of that number. All they are is nothing more than a dividing factor of your number at the end. Which in most cases is no help because your random number is too high no matter how many times you divide it by. I would rather have multiple random numbers assigned to me then just a dividing factor.

Getting a lower number by dividing by (weighted points plus) one could move you into draw position vs not if your number at the end of the process is low and the applicants ahead have noticably fewer points. Having 2X the points might just you over an applicant with a number about half of yours. 4X for 1/4. It's definitely better to have more points. But the effect of an additional point drops the more you have, as it does with straight bonus points. Is division by 20 vs 19 worth it? By the same token, is having 20 vs 19 random numbers worth more than that? I'm not sure. Probably not worth $100 either way:)

Sheep, Moose, and goat just for grins cause who knows right?

I'll draw my rifle elk tag to go with dad and a buddy. Should draw my muzzy antelope with a couple buddies. Got a shot with 1 point for the rifle bear tag, but not holding my breath which means leftovers again. Just got a PP for deer and hoping that the leftover list is good to me again!

If Hunting and Angling Ended
There is no alternative funding system
in place to replace the potential lost
funds for conservation. If hunting and
angling end, funding for wildlife
conservation, including enforcement of
all wildlife laws, will be jeopardized.
Hunters, anglers and shooters actively
support wildlife conservation through
tangible actions such as buying licenses
and paying taxes on hunting, fishing and
shooting equipment. Why are hunters and
anglers so willing to support
conservation through their pocketbooks?
Because people place added value on ?
and are willing to pay for ? what they
can use.

I think 67 is going to see some serious point creep this year with all the people chasing 44 jumping ship ?

First season rifle elk 581 for my son 14, daughter 12,and me as well as first deer season tags for the kids. I put in for a 4th season dear tag, moose tag for 7,8,9. I drew a Wyoming general elk tag this year. lots of fun getting the kids in the field..

Nothing, it's just suffered severe point creep. It's almost laughable to see how many people are stacked up with 15 plus points when there's not a unit in the state right now that's worth it waiting that long for to hopefully kill a 180 plus inch deer on when you can do it on 0 to 2 point units...
