Has anyone hunted this unit recently ? I have no updated information on it. Have a good chance of a draw with the needed Points. Advice & assistance with recent hunting experience there would be very helpful & appreciated ! Likely hunting out of a motel in La Junta nearby, with early days arrival to study the lands & antelope, if that's allowed under Military Rules they may grant.

I have not gotten O K or permit yet.
But it should fall into place.
Thank you for your response !
Did you get to hunt this unit ?
I plan to give it a Max effort 150 %.
Big buck antelope are my prime targets? getting ready early.
Appreciate very much your contact !
I love to hunt big antelope.
I'd like all assistance I can get. I'm starting from zero here. ?

Thanks very much for your contact & information !! Very appreciated.
I'll check out the link you sent. Everything will assist me. It sounds like a great opportunity in Trophy antelope territory. My kind of hunt.
Did you ever get to hunt this unit for antelope or deer ? I used to hear good things about the deer hunting, but that was a long time ago.

Never hunted it, but lived that way for a bit. What weapon did you apply for? Not being negative, but a much larger number of bucks hit the ground there last year than the year prior after Eastman's made it a blue chip unit last year.

why would more bucks hit the ground because of eastmans rating when the tag allotment was unchanged? Not following the logic..

OP, What season did you put in for and by ?good chance? do you mean you have enough points or ?maybe enough points?. Takes a pile of points to draw rfle.
Have hunted it twice, including last year.

2016 to 2017 the buck harvest doubled. So I apologize, my year was off. the pressure doubled then too. People were splitting up between that hunt and another hunt in its group on an alternative weapon hunt. That code was split this year.

Rifle. Have 11 points going into draw. Stats say 75 % draw probable. CPW Co Springs told me still a great hunting area for trophy bucks. If it seems to be not that great, can always turn tag back in. Did that in ?18? 61 elk unit & fires ? made it very iffy.
Hope this 142 is for real .Thanks for reply !

Hope 11 points for Rifle will do
The job in draw. What type of hunting? quality of trophies & numbers? did you see ? Any advice on hunting the area ? I've hunted many times in many states last 40 years. Big antelope are my favorites ! Above all others ! Thanks for your replying to me !

Hello Khunter-- See my posts from today please. I hope 11 points rifle will get the tag this year. I'm starting from zero information except for what CPW Personnel --Co Springs--told me about this area for trophy antelope bucks. I've never been there. But have hunted many times in Wyoming & other states for big antelope, sometimes with success on a big buck, eaten lots of tags too when nothing big turned up. Every bit of information will be most appreciated & helpful. Going to give the hunt a max effort if the tag hits this year or next. Thanks for your response !

Take a look at harvest stats, in 2017 and 2018 they blasted the bucks with smokepole because of a misguided CPW shift to lump 142 with 7 or so other units for a total of 150 muzzie buck tags. Zero low points needed to draw and hunters stacked up in 142 instead of the other units that have a ton of pvt land. They fixed it this year and went back to standalone 142 muzzie tag.

To my eye, last year, top end was decimated before rifle season started. Even worse, if that is possible, that slaughter happened just before rifle so critters were skittish as heck. I thought it was a terrible hunt last year as compared to when I drew it 10? years ago. I guess it will be a couple years before unit recovers. I was sure glad I got tag on reissue instead burning 11 points. I think you will be better of if you don't draw...call and talk to Ft Carson range biologists and hunt managers not CPW...

Khunter--Thanks so much for the recon report & problems in that unit that you detailed ! Wow-- sounds like bad deal in 142.Not going to drop 11 points there on a wild goose chase ! I'll check further ! Of course I had no idea about that situation !

Warning-- on 142-- I spoke to one of the base biologists at length . Bottom line-- don't go here for at least 3-5 years till herd rebounds. Huge foul up last 2 years-- way too many permits for the herd & muzzleloader and the others. Herd was clobbered & bigger bucks taken out in big numbers!
Forget this area at least 3-5 years IF they don't foul it up on numbers again! So Beware !
