Ive been a member here for a few years. Posted some. Helped some. Read a ton. This year i got a u it 44 3rd season tag. Super pumped. Dont know a ton a out the unit. But learning. Scouted some already.

Curious for any advice. Thanks!
 
Congrats, that is a great tag. But it can be a VERY tough hunt if you do not have weather in your favor. I've been on multiple 3rd season 44 hunts and they have all been grinders. The last two have taken until day 8 and 9. Primarily because the weather didn't hit until late into the season. The best advice I can give you is to stay patient and hunt the entire season. It has been very common for the past 5 years or so for the first 5 days of season or so to be brutally slow. I've witnessed multiple guys throw in the towel and shoot a small buck early in the hunt and go home because they aren't seeing any mature bucks, if any bucks at all. The large deer in the unit are almost ghost like when conditions are hot and dry.

Thats great advice. With my expectations being rather high thats going to cause some anxiety for sure. I hunted with a friend last year in 54 3rd and last day we killed a 190 buck. Did not see him till second to last day. Were going to pack up and spotted him on the morning we were gonna leave. Lucky.
So I guess I am totally expecting a grinder. But convinced im am going to dig put a great buck. Hell or high water.
