Hunter ed

I'm coming out in early oct for a elk hunt and possibly in August to do some scouting. I would like to get my hunter Ed point if possible? There seems there are different avenues to Take the test, which is the simplest and most efficient? At the moment, I don't see offered when I'll be coming. I know Don Martin offers a one day class but from what I read it is only offered twice a yr. and the website shows several diff ?types? of hunter Ed classes

My take is do you want to learn something about Arizona and our rules and regulations or do you just want the point?

I truly hope that the folks that take my classes in January and April really want to learn about Arizona and are not in it just for the point--though I understand how important that point is.

My classes will fill up in about 5 days when offered. I probably won't open up for registration till November as some folks sign up and then don't show up, thus keeping someone who really wants to take the class still waiting.

Well both! But i guess my question was it seemed confusing on how to take the class to get the bonus pt? I would obviously like to do that while I was there in oct if possible

The majority of us that took the class to get the bonus point made a special trip. I drove from Reno to Kingman.
The wife went with me and we had a fun trip.

Hey AZBuckSnort,
Would you mind forwarding me the info as well?
I've been trying to time a trip to hit Dons class, but just haven't been able to make it work?
Anyway...
Thanks!

Don. I sent u a pm

Don ,

Could you please enlighten us on the prerequisites for your class. If I recall an additional hunter safety certificate is required but only valid if completed after a certain year. I'm 66 with a hunters safety certificate issued in 1967. That would make me ineligible for your class , correct?

I'm finally going down for a field class while down to scout the unit I got for elk. Should have tried to do it years ago.?

The next Online Field Day (successful completion will earn the AZ Hunter Ed Bonus Point, only prerequisite is completion of the AZ Online Hunter Education Course) we are holding will be on Sunday morning, 4 August 2019 at the Tri State Shooting Park in Ft Mohave, AZ. The range is located between Bullhead City, AZ and Needles, CA, near Laughlin, NV along the Colorado River. Lots of lodging at the resorts along the River, the Avi Resort is closest to the range.
We have been holding these OFDs monthly but will not have one in July. Likely will have one in each month during the fall.

Bird dog:

To take the class I do, which you will definitely learn about Arizona rules and regs, you must have taken Hunter Education in another state since 1985 and send me a copy of your card to prove it.

That is the only requirement.

My next one-day class will be the first Saturday in January 2020.. It is NOT open for registrations at this time.

Probably put it up in October. Class limited to 35.

Watch for it, first come first serve.

I took the online class earlier this year and printed out the certificate which expired in April. I never had the chance to take the field class yet so my question is. Do I have to take the online class again to get a new certificate or is the old one still good even though it's expired.

Field Day for Online Course grads on 9/29/19 @ Tri-State Shooting Park in Ft Mohave, register at azgfd.gov in Hunter Education section of the portal.

My next one day class where you'll definitely learn something about AZ rules and regs will be Saturday, January 4, 2020.

Registrations are first come, first serve and you must register with AZGFD to get one of the 35 seats that are offered. You have to have taken and passed Hunter Ed in any state since 1985 is the only requirement and there is a age limit for young hunters.

I hope the class will go online and open up for registration around the middle of October.

Obviously it will fill fast. You snooze, you'll loose!

Keep watch on the AZGFD website under Hunter Education and watch for the class. Those who have taken it before will mostly say it is worth it for the information you'll receive (Ok, and the permanent bonus point!)

Paperwork has been submitted to AZGFD for approval for the January 4, 2020 one day Supplemental class. Once approved then it will be open for registration only through the AZGFD website.

Look for the January 4, 2020 class at the 7 Mile Hill range in Golden Valley, AZ

Only 35 seats available, first come, first served.

If you want to learn about Arizona rules and regs and draw strategy, come and take my class. If all you want is the bonus point, the classes that Jim Rich and staff offers is the way to go.
