Just curious how spring turkey is going.

Hoping to do a bikepacking turkey hunt next weekend in the Jemez.

I got one last Tuesday AM, 3 gobblers came in fast. Happy to get one but sort of a screwup that I didn't get 2. Overall there was a decent amount of gobbling in the area I was hunting, although it was almost all early and late.

I poked around the Datil area but couldn't find any. That said, I'm a complete noob with Turkey hunting. I decided its pointless to drive out to a spot unless you know they've been nearby in the past week or two. So... I set some game cameras up in the forest near Socorro and will check them in a few days. If I see something I'll hunt near them, if I don't I will hunt near the bosque and just hope I get fortunate.

I've been to busy with family stuff and work to have time to chase turkeys. Next week I should finally get a chance. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures to share.

Did some scouting two days before the opener and saw six toms, but I won't have a chance to get back in there until this Friday when I'll put my title as NM's worst turkey hunter on the line. Hopefully this will be the year I shed that title... :)

We have been able to get two youth turkey down. Still trying to get my other nephew one in the Sandias.

Here is the video if you want to see.

Awesome to see the kids do well.

Despite my zero calling skills, I was sitting in the right spot yesterday, when a couple hens walked by, followed by these two guys:

The gobblers were in full strut, but otherwise neither them or the hens were making a sound.

I have barely gotten the chance to head out. I was drawn for unit 8. Sandia ranger district. Spent 2 days with no sightings. I'm wondering the same as there were 14 others that drew for this same unit. Spring Turkey 2019
