Unit 34 bear

Currently scouting (so far unsuccessfully) and planning for archery bear in unit 34 for Aug and Sep. Spot and stalk, no dogs.

For you experienced bear hunters in 34, when does this unit typically close on average? I am trying to ballpark how much of Sep I will be able to hunt before quota is met.

It seems like I used to see the information on when a bear unit was closed pretty regularly on the NMDGF website. I used to see when I would check to see if a zone I intended to hunt was still open, and then there would also be past years information there so that I could see on what day it closed in the past. I'm not able to see that now, so it may have been taken down, but I'll bet a phone call to NMDGF could get you the past years' closure information pretty easily.

I will be out there some this summer scouting for an elk hunt. I'll be sure to update this thread with any bear info/news I discover. Good luck!

Last year unit 34 closed 9/26/18 per NMDGF email.

Probably can be found on their website somewhere also.

I left a message with the "bear and cougar" guy at game & fish but never heard back. Seems like typical closure is late sep. Thanks guys

Just curious where they usually are as to be aware of them when i?m out there and not accidentally run into them. If i do see something i?ll let you know
