LAST EDITED ON Sep-11-18 AT 03:05PM (MST)[p]Just returned from an 8 day scouting/bow hunting trip to unit 87 with the wife. Scouted four different areas.....two high, two low. Spied a lot of does, a few good bucks and one great one. At 53, wife got to go on her first real camping trip and got to see her first pronghorn, mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep and other stuff. There is no public land in China so this was pretty cool for her. She held up very well, and insists to return with me for the rifle season despite what the temps may be. She prolly wasn't supposed to be making camp fires but she really enjoyed that! Upgraded my tent camping with a Zodi hot shower and shower tent for the wife. Good to make a dry run to work out the kinks.

I got some good prelim ideas on where I might deer hunt come October 15th, pending weather. Hope everyone else had ample time to prepare for your fall hunts.

Great pictures - really neat country!! Good luck on your hunt and be sure to report back and more pictures:) That's a unit I've been thinking of hunting, not sure if I'll have enough points next year or not. Anyway, good luck to you on your adventure!

Excellent, family time in the woods.....Priceless . Thinking about 87 for deer as well, look forward to your updates.

You will find 87 gets a little interesting with rain or snow......
As residents my partner and I have hunted the area quite a bit for antelope and coyotes but last year was the first year we drew deer tags (drew them again this year ;-)

Just a couple of pics of whats been out there in the past

I haven't heard of any bucks over 180 this year in 87, everyone said it was a tough year.

I'll let Zim chime in with the details but it sounds like it was average hunt for average deer - just like when I hunted it about 5 years ago.

The long awaited wordy excuses/blame and a "meat" buck.

Zim is too busy with his Chinese bride to get back to us!
