Were these bears in an open hunting zone if the season wasn"t put on hold by the federal judge? Just curious.

Yes..terrace mountain is in one of the open hunting zones. That area of the wilderness is loaded with bears. I spent 5 years guiding hunting and packing trips in that country. Once the snow flies, it would be easy to see 3-5 different bears a day in some areas. Terrible situation, as I'm sure the guide put his life on the line for that client

It is my understanding that the grizzly bears involved in this death were killed today. It was a sow with a mature cub.

Sad deal, prayers go out to his family. 3-5 bears a day is way too many. Hunts are way over due. Might not prevent this type of situation, but certainly lowers the chance of run ins with bears. Way to many grizzlys in that country. IMO

When we value a bears life more than human life, that is a problem in my book. There are too many grizzlies in this area. They need to be hunted and managed like everything else. Sad deal.

This goes into more depth about the gun. Something to think about. If you accidentally punch out a magazine, a semi auto is at best a single shot, at worst useless with an empty chamber or magazine disconnect. You can't do that with a revolver. A hip hip holster keeps the gun on you, doubt he would have taken it off.
