Looking to make hunting friends SE Wyoming

I'm new to hunting in Wyoming and I'm stationed down in Cheyenne for the military. This year I bagged my first muley on a DIY and absolutely fell in love with it. I'm from southern Arkansas where it's 95% tree or blind hunting so this was a challenging but definitely enjoyable change.

Back home we have deer clubs/camps or deer leases that we can join to meet other hunters in the area and such, I posted on a different section on this website and was told they don't really have camps up here. I'd love to meet up with other hunters in South Eastern Wyoming and become more knowledgeable and respectful about hunting in Wyoming, maybe go on trips with folks. I duck hunt and fish as well so I'd even be up to go on those trips also. I loved the chase of the hunt, but that pack out was rough lol, I can't imagine doing a DIY elk hunt and packing out by my lonesome.

You?d be surprised what you can do after some research and a little experience. You definitely could handle a DIY elk hunt and pack it out by yourself.

When I showed up to Cannon AFB I had just some eastern style whitetail hunting experience under my belt.
After a lot of reading, YouTube videos, and forums time I put in for my first elk tag, drew, and tagged out on a solo DIY hunt.
Don?t discount yourself!

I would get hooked up with BHA and get to know some of the members in the Cheyenne and Laramie area. There is a get together in January you might look into.

Howdy Jake,
I hear you on the hunting culture being totally different in the South. I have lived and hunted in Arkansas my whole life and the deer camp friendships can be as big a deal as the hunt itself.
I totally agree with the RMEF banquet suggestion. That's a great place to develope lasting friendships with some very good people.
BTW - I have been hunting the west for over 30 years and Wyoming has become my favorite.
Happy hunts!!

Hello Jake Rich !
I'd be happy to help you in knowledge about antelope units /hunting in Wy.. I lived in Cheyenne for 9 years & just moved to Ft Collins , Co in '16 due to losing my wife & hunting pal of 40 years to cancer. My new wife lived here for 12 years & prefers Co.. I've hunted trophy antelope since '78 in many states especially Wyoming ! My overall favorite state for hunting ! I've never had much luck pulling deer/elk permits anywhere due to entering trophy area units drawings, but I religiously studied the draw odds for antelope every year & got very good at getting good/decent antelope permits in Wyoming almost every year. I've hunted in many units in southern/central Wyoming.
My guess is you are classified as a resident of Wyoming, or soon will be, that's a huge difference maker in drawing odds for any tags but especially antelope !!
I don't know if you've hunted antelope yet , but the draw deadline for them is coming up fast at 5/31. If Dont miss it !
I'd be glad to assist you on antelope information any way I can. Hunting them even by yourself is quite easy but it takes patience to NOT pull the trigger too early. Most hunters get done way too fast.
Let me know or drop me a note on E Mail if I may assist you.
Best Regards,
Jerry Gold--Ft Collins, Co
