LAST EDITED ON Jun-26-19 AT 12:40PM (MST)[p]I'll try this again.

Although we didn't draw our first choice, we're still ecstatic. I get to hunt with my old man, which could be the last year he's able to get out and hunt as he's getting older and his health is deteriorating. I couldn't be more excited. I wanted to see if we could get a couple tips, suggestions, or places to start in unit 165.

We are decent with glass, and he's comfortable shooting to about 500 yards. And he's okay hiking, we just take our time getting places. Do you guys have any suggestions or tips? We want to make it up a couple times before October and do some scouting and just spend some time together.

Thanks in advance!

If it's the type 1 tag I would hunt it the last week in Oct for the pre rut. About Oct 26 or 27 bucks will start hanging out with doe groups.

Yes, its the 165-1 tag. Do you think it's worth going up and trying to hunt with a bow in September at all?

Archery seasons will always be less pressure unless it's a type 9 tag.
You might find a velvet antlered buck in early Sept and they should be on a feeding pattern then.
