WY Archery Tag Question

I've mule deer hunted WY several times on a General NR tag, but never bow hunted. If I understand the regs correctly, I can purchase an archery tag (type 9) but I also have to have a General tag for that Region. Am I correct?

A couple other questions:
1) Drawing the General tag uses any points I have, correct?
2) If I'm unsuccessful in the archery season, my General rifle tag is still good, correct?

I think understand correctly, just checking.

Thanks.

Joe:

You are confusing a Type 9 archery license with the archery stamp.

A Type 9 license has to be applied for just like any other limited quota license. If you draw the Type 9 license on your first choice you will lose your preference points. With a Type 9 license a hunter is only allowed to hunt during that archery season specified in the regulations for a Type 9 license.

As a nonresident if you apply for and draw a Region Deer license, then you can purchase an archery stamp that allows you to hunt with archery equipment during the archery season in any of the general license hunt areas within the Deer Region you drew.

You are correct, you can hunt during the rifle season IF you hunted during the archery season on a general region license (by purchasing an archery stamp) and were unsuccessful.

Hope this helps.

This is a great explanation if you are talking about elk, but there are no type 9 licenses issued for deer.

But yes, it does appear to be confusion about archery stamp.

Thanks guys.

Step 1: Apply for General license.
Step 2: Get drawn.
Step 3: Buy an archery tag.
Step 4: Go kill a big 'un!
