Toying with the idea of putting in for an idaho pronghorn tag for 2019. Anybody have any suggestions about which hunts would be good to put in for? Considering draw odds, number of animals, public land access etc. Would be putting in for non res rifle hunts. Would also bring deer and wolf tags just in case. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Ill be researching draw odds etc soon, but figured id try putting some feelers out here.

Good luck, I've been putting in for rifle pronghorn for 20 years. Never got a sniff. Draw odds are unbelievably awful...even for residents let alone non-resident. With that said any of the south central/south east Idaho units are good if you can manage to draw. Look at units 50-70.

I have been applying for 10 years and no luck. I do believe that there are some easier to draw bow tags.

The bow tags are actually pretty fun. Never killed one, and it's extremely difficult to get close enough on the moon with a bow, but it's a really good time. You can always scout and sit water if that's your thing.

Some of those are 100% draw odds, unlimited tags. Some of the better bow tags are 30-50% draw odds. Just earlier with less hunters.

Archery is your only real chance, but can always put in for the hail mary rifle tags.

Archery would be the way to go. I have hunted 3 years for them, shot a decent buck my first year on the early August hunt, then shot a hog that made pope and young in 2017 mid September in the unlimited tag hunt. All over water in a blind.

I also scout for 3-4 weekends in the summer and find at least 30-40 water holes just in case other hunters are on them.

My only question would be WHY would you waste $500 to hunt a dink ass Idaho lope ?? Pretty sure WY MT CO NM & NV all have NR lope hunts & they cant be that much more $$ to apply or hunt

Your odds are much better in other states, like what was said archery is the way to go, but be prepared the water holes are over crowded with the worst blinds I have ever seen in my life, in fact next year I start seeing the crap around water holes I'm going to start hauling it to the landfill. There are some hardcore archery hunters that do well, but now you have the hot shots who drive around and wing arrows out to 150 yards. Good luck

WY is 1000x better for antelope hunting than ID or any other western state, IMO. It's unbelievable the number of goats in WY. Driving home from an elk hunt last year, I literally could not go more than a mile without seeing a herd of antelope. We tried to see how far we could go without seeing one. There's more antelope in that state than there is humans.

If you are applying for deer and elk already then you can try from pronghorn in Idaho. I've been trying to draw a pronghorn tag in Idaho for over 20 years and haven't drawn. Since I'm a nonresident of Idaho for the moment, I'm thinking of not even wasting the application fee, even though I'll be applying for deer and elk. The genetics and trophy potential are not reflected in the draw odds. I've had 7 pronghorn tags in Wyoming in the last 12 years and even on the easy to draw tags in Wyoming I feel like I have a better chance at killing a B&C pronghorn in Wyoming than just about any tag in Idaho. If you want to hunt pronghorn you will have a much better hunt in Wyoming or Montana. AZ and NM have much better genetics but good luck drawing in either of those states.

I've applied 13 years here and drew once. I shot a 15 1/2 inch. Units 50 - 70 but just cant seem to draw.
