Idaho wildlife federation

I am a member. No complaints so far. Brian Brooks, the director keeps a pretty close eye on the legislative season with weekly updates. They have also been fighting for local public land access.

They have been doing great work in the Capitol and are really pushing good policy/legislation.
As much as hunters hate it our hunting future is being decided in the state house by a bunch of crotchety old ranchers.

They were the ones who broke the auction tag fiasco

I believe brymoore on here is the Treasurer and is a top notch dude. I have found very little that I disagree with IWF on.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-01-19 AT 05:52PM (MST)[p]I too have seen nothing but good things come from the organization. They fought the trespass bill like crazy last legislative session and they are fighting against more anti-public land bills once again this year. They were also the ones who dug up the records for the easements on the road access through the Wilks property.

Many thanks for the input.

As for me, well... I wouldn't know a piece of legislation or a house bill or whatever all that stuff is called even if it was kickin' me in the sack!

But what I do know is that I value and cherish public land and access with all of my heart and soul.
I also know that these things I value so much are under constant attack from every direction possible.
I wanted to fight back, but I felt helpless to do much about it because quite honestly I wouldn't even know where to begin.
And the times that I did make an attempt to do something about it overwhelmed so much that I just threw in the towel in frustration.

Some how I came across something about the IWF, I thought damn! this outfit is to good to be true.
the more I dug the better it got.

Nearest I can figure.
These people are in the trenches fighting hard for some of the things I love and value most in life, and I ain't positive, but it sounds like they're mostly using their own money and all of their time to fight for me, my kids, and all of my grandchildren.

They make it so easy for me to stay informed, get involved and allow me to join the fight and do my part.

Big thanks goes out to IWF.
And I encourage anybody that wants to join the tough battle ahead in preserving our public lands and access to check out the Idaho wildlife federation.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-19 AT 04:53AM (MST)[p]They do a good job, enlightening public to the backdoor tactics of Idaho good ole boy club, Pretty sad when some of the most active and concerned reps are across the aisle, and Liberal.
Here in eastern and southern Idaho just have a the letter R behind
your name be lds and your golden. You have a carte blanch kitchen pass.
And you don't need to listen to your constituents because you don't realize the "conservatives" from the left coast are what we here in Idaho consider left leaning.
Several incumbents for house/senate seats found out how quick they can change the demographics, and are now jobless in this case. You want some entertaining reading look at the farm bureau lobby and their recent charter. Not too far off of SFW and it's power grab in our southern neighbor, they want all the say in regards to wildlife and fisheries and their political minions. And of course the reps who won't listen by and large are all landowners who benefit personally from the recent 5 years or so fights for hunting fishing, trespass and public lands. A smattering of Seattle/Portland type mentality of city folks.

Only thing I personally don't agree with IWF is the hy 20 wildlife crossings, it would block access to miles of public lands unless there were fence gaps to the county and fs roads, which would then defeat the purpose of having a fence to funnel game through. They can't get any of the dot govs to commit to a feasible plan that works for all. Nor that the repeated attempts to turn the whole area into a national monument would not be realized. And it would push the migration corridor on both the east and west side across roads like HY 26 teton canyon and scenic byway, and the west side shotgun/Yale Valley shifting the "problem" of traffic issue, and solving nothing and creating new ones. Other than that pretty pleased.

Brymoore- I am interested in Idaho Wildlife federation, I would really like to here more about it from you and what your mission is. I am very concerned about Idaho wildlife, right this minute we have deer and elk in the streets of Bellevue and Hailey with 5? of frozen snow on the ground. Yes we are going to loose a bunch of deer again this year in the upper wood river valley. What scares the heck out of me is the way the Game and fish came to our communities on February 19th for the last of the season setting meetings with Mike McDonald head biologist as speaker. Mike went on for half an hour about corn production, then another half an hour on how the only law the game and fish has to obey is to protect the private land owner. Then went on to tell the large group of sportsman how they are really going to go after the elk with over the counter tags,x tags, land owner tags, depredation tags and then to issue kill tags. This meeting is for public comments, and our input is supposed to be a deciding factor along with game and fish commissioners. You could tell the way the meeting was run and the actions from Mike McDonald that we have no voice in this matter his mind was made up . He ran the meeting just like the old hated Randy Smith from Magic Valley Region, it's his way or the Highway. I was heavily involved with getting wolves off the endangered species list and we did a lot of talking with legislators and sportsman?s group throughout the state. The game and fish at the time was at an all time low, with no voice at all, over the last couple of years we were working well with game and fish, what happened they show up February 19th with 15 game and fish officers and don't evan agnolige the Sportsman, it's all about corn and the landowner. It amazes me we pull them out of the gutter and here they go on another whim, but this time they forgot the sportsman. I am interested in helping if your not a green decoy group. You can pm me but it might just help your membership to post it up right here for people to read. Thank you

I would also like to here from custom weld also, you seem to be quite involved and up on the legislative side of things. I had no idea IWF was the oldest conservation group in Idaho. I also like the fact of the informative updates on the legislators. Looking forward to reading responses,I am very concerned for Idaho wildlife. Thanks Hawkbill

I know you didn't ask me but I wanted to reply.

As you likely know.
The legislature and aforementioned boys club controls what idf&g is legally mandated to do currently they are being turned into a tool to limit big game numbers instead of a wildlife management agency. (See bill to limit search and seizure of wildlife crime.) Its in link.
The legislature has had an obvious vendetta against idf&g since they refused to implement auction tags and a point system. They had attacked funding for a few years. They are trying to structure the commission to be easily influenced by the legislature and shifting policies of who idf&g is working for.
These are just my opinions/observations.

I posted the wrong weekly update that was last week this is this weeks below.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-02-19 AT 08:49AM (MST)[p]hawkbill, I follow the committee meetings and agendas on the legislature pretty close while they are in session. Idaho Farm Bureau's 2019 Handbook really spells out what they want, from dictating how many animals are in a unit to license fees increases. If you haven't already, read through the Fish and Game portion.

It's easy to get down on IFG, but remember although we pay, the legislature ultimately sets the rules. I'm sure that you already know, but here are a couple of House Committees to watch. Look who sit on them and look at what their voting records have been on Fish and Game and Land issues.

Thanks Elkmagnet and customweld for responding and thank you for the links. It all makes sense now , with the attitude the game and fish had at our meeting , but like I said you come into a hunting community and all of a sudden the only thing that matters is the big land owner, your going to have a lot more problems unless you involve the sportsmen. To flood our forests with over the counter Elk tags and deer tags is not going to help the land owners. I am going to join IWF so I can keep up on the bills and the legislators. If I can help please let me know

Hawkbill, the way the meetings are set up is really to get some information out into the public. Without any kind of agenda to follow, open house meetings quickly dissolve into shouting matches and lots of roving, off topic conversations. One thing to keep in mind is that a very small fraction of sportsmen even keep an eye on any of this. Out of that small fraction, even fewer probably want to understand how intricately IFG is tied into the legislature. I have found the best way to voice my comments is through the IFG website and their electronic comment system.

I think a group, like IWF, does more than most by fighting on the legislative side. We need to support them. Would be nice to raise our collective voting power, but even if we can't, we can help a group like IWF bring more "light" to certain subjects which does have some positive impact.

I agree.
Iwf may not have gotten s.b.1089 out of committee this year but a lot of ##### came into the light during its hearing.

Hopefully next year. Funny how the same reason that it wasn?t let out of committee, didn't seem to matter last year on HB 658.

I am a new member of IWF, and really look forward to helping out, thanks everyone for the input and the knowledge. Hawk
