Unit 49 Elk Early Rifle

Fellow Hunters! Any of you archery hunt or rifle hunt this unit for elk or deer? I have a early rifle tag for this unit. Don't live in the area but not too far away (4 hours).

I'm hunting by myself and as such need to find elk within a few miles of pickup point or find someone that will rent me horses / mules to get an elk out.

Looking for a nice bull (as most of us are) but also understand I'm not going in as far as a outfitted hunt would be and maybe that effects the age class of bulls?

There should be bulls to be had not too far from the road. I would find a good glassing point and locate a herd or two. I don't think outfitters disrupt the age class of the early hunt. Cows are hot, and bulls will be with them

It's open Country. Find a glassing spot and find the elk. Have a good spotting scope with you.
Hunt up high.. you will see elk. its getting to them, that's the challenge.

Reach out to little wood river outfitters and Sun Valley outfitters. I am pretty sure they will pack out a bull if you are successful and they have a guide back in town.
