LAST EDITED ON Jul-22-18 AT 02:57PM (MST)[p]Question!! I can't even spell it right in the subject heading. Anyways, I've done a little research on this, but haven't found a solid answer to a question I have.
How does the Oregon F&G weigh preference points if a resident and non-resident apply together as a party? I'm assuming they would look at the non-resident points, is that correct? Thanks for any input you might have.

A resident and a NR can apply together and there is no difference in their points , but they are then both subject to the NR quota.

In other words just figure the resident as a NR when you're figuring your draw odds.

Thanks OchocoKid, I was afraid of that. I guess the best way is to apply separately when I'm sure that we can all draw separately from our respective states.
Thanks again,
HWY

In a mixed party, res and nr, the nr tag(s) will come from the nr pool, and the resident tag(s) will come from the resident pool. If the res or nr quota has been met for either, the whole party is bounced. Generally, the nr will be the determining factor in whether the party gets drawn or bounced.

Thanks for the explanation WapatiBob, that actually makes a drawing more achievable in my mind. Happy hunting this year!!

Everything aside, the NR quota always fills fast on decent hunts. since the resident is treated as a NR in the quota the only way to look at it is all the applicants in a group figure their odds off the NR draw odds page.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-26-18 AT 01:37PM (MST)[p]I talked to the head of the draw dept 5 minutes before I posted my initial comments.
A resident is not treated as a nr in any manner. They look to fill the residents in the group from the resident tag quota, and fill the nr from the nr quota. If either quota is lacking tags the whole group is bounced. For odds, most likely the nr in the group will have slim odds to draw, which will eliminate the entire group.

Right, so using the NR draw odds would be you closest estimate of the odds of a party with a NR in it. so in essence if you apply with a NR you're treated as a NR because his odds are your odds.

There are no hunts where a NR has better odds than a resident so this should always be the case.

Thanks for the input guys! I only have 11 deer points, so I can draw a "good hunt" in the next couple years. One of my Oregon buddies used his points last year and the other has some stocked up, so we should be in the drawing in the next year or so. I was just hoping that they would not be treated as a non-resident if we put in together. Thanks again for clearing this up for me.
