Set the alarm for 5 this am and went outside to see stars and no rain or wind so off I went. Got to the blind and set up in the pre dawn with gobblers making noise on the roost, as they all flew down for the day they went the other direction..Pretty quiet and slow for a good couple hours then it's like a switch was flipped and the woods game alive with all the sounds of Spring Turkey season.. pretty simple from here, i was calling at some distant gobbling and this guy came in behind the blind silent then all of a sudden let out a huge gobble, I'm not going to lie, i damn near crapped myself as close as he was..lol. . As he made his way to the decoys I gathered myself in time to draw and send a good arrow through him for my second bird of the season..Love this time of year..

Strong work! My sons hunt that he won for opening day got canceled due to flooding. I knew he would be devastated so I booked him a guided hunt for Sunday. Sunday morning came and we were unable to hunt the plan a spot along the Sacramento River due to it being at flood monitor stage, so trucks driving up and down the levee would not work well for a hunt.
We went into the hills and did som run and gun. We came close but we could not seal the deal. He did get to shoot a coyote that came into the decoys and ruined a hot gobbler that was coming in.

That was my first turkey hunt as well and I can see why you love it so much!

Keep after it canyon, nothing g better than sharing the woods after gobblers with your kids, I regret the fact that when my kids were younger we lived on the north coast and I wasn't into turkeys yet..I get mine every year and it's fun but to see someone else get them if you do the work and call them in..thats priceless..good luck and looking forward to some success pics in the future..

Nice JR. Can?t wait to go after one with my bow this year. Just wish the dang rain would stop when I have time ;-)
