CO Draw Sucks

First, they force us to by a small game license that we don't want, and won't use. Got charged for two. Called. No refund.

Put in for points for sheep & moose. Cost $9.00. Didn't realize when you are awarded a point it is $100.00 each. Same with my son. $400.00. Called. Can't get a refund. I realize if I'd gotten the booklet I could have checked first, but figured it was the same as elk. That's a lot of Budweiser! PC

The least they could do is turn around draw results.. April till June? Seems like it could go quicker for all the money right. Kindof wish their was some mandate for all states that do electronic to turn it around is less than 1 month.

I hope they put all this extra cash to good use. I bet people in your boat won't put in next year or will opt out once they realize what it actually costs.

If you didn't know about any of these changes you must have been living under a rock. You can't blame them for you not knowing the rules.

That said the rules do suck.

Paul you had to literally check a box agreeing to pay $100 for a point when applying online, or a box to opt out of the point and fee. We've been discussing this all over the WWW including this site since it passed last November. This should not have come as a surprise to you. That said, yes it does suck, as I've been saying for 6 months. I'd rather front the full cost of the license when applying like we did prior to 2018 rather than the point fee. They played it just right in 18 only charging the app fee and it bloated the app pool making the simple minded lavish CP&W with praise for charging a pp fee. In 2 short years they forgot there were half the applicants and no pp fee when we had to front the tag fee! As was asked in the Colorado forum, now that you know about the pp fee will you apply next year? Dont know how old your son is but 18 and under no pp fee and the small game license is $1.25. I'm guessing your son is past that.

I was shocked when I saw that Wyomings deer tag is now $398. Every state is putting it to us...they know we'll pay it.

Cancer doesn't discriminate...don't take your good health for granted because it can be gone in a heartbeat. Please go back and read the last line. This time really understand what it says.

At least in WY we have a chance to draw since its 50-50 / Points - Random draw. In CA its mostly Max points with a couple of random draws spots (G3 for example).

LAST EDITED ON May-22-19 AT 05:56PM (MST)[p]Rules/changes were pretty clear...last year was a debacle....wouldn't mind going back to paying in advance.

Forcing folks to buy a license is the norm in many states (CA, AZ, WA, NM....ect). This is smart from the Wildlife Department standpoint; they get Pittman-Robertson Act monies from the federal government for licenses sold (nothing from selling preference points the way I understand it).

As for opportunity in our homestate...I can hunt July-Nov with my AO tag....almost always have an opportunity to harvest if I choose. One can hunt certain X zones every other year (although starting to be every 3rd year with point creep) with a rifle...every other with archery equipment though. Other OTC tags offer plenty of opportunity (at least until they sell out.....)

Now does CA compare to WY or CO for opportunity....not quite ;-). But I'll gladly play by those states rules and pay fees for the opportunity they offer.

Good luck to all in the CA upcoming draw, and any draws you all have in other states! Get out somewhere, enjoy the outdoors, cherish the ability to have the health to hunt, have a postitve attitude and create an experience!

G3 is not a good example since it's a low tag unit your odds suck no matter what max points or not.Wyomings odds for it's top tier units are worse then G3

I would still feel better applying for G3 if half the tags were random instead of two random tags, the same goes for elk and Antelope.
