A Zone Opener

Did anyone out there have success on their opening weekend of "A" zone? I saw plenty of bucks, made a few stocks and didn't seal the deal on a deer. But we did happen to run across a group of hogs and a friend and I both managed to stick our first hogs with a bow. So we didn't come home empty handed! The biggest struggle trying to get on the bucks was getting my cover blown by the other deer in the group, I know I took some riskier stocks, but when you only have one day to hunt I feel like you're more inclined to take a less attractive approach just because of the time crunch. Just curious if others out there agree with me when you see a deer in a spot that you think isn't ideal for a stalk, but you only have one day, do you go for it? Or do you sit and wait and hope that a better opportunity arises? I'm talking about your average blacktail deer, 16-18 wide forked horn.

If you're seeing a lot of bucks over a pretty big area then I would be more inclined to force a stalk with the limited time. If not, then I don't want to educate a buck on a long shot stalk. I'll save it for another day.

A big blacktail in the velvet is vulnerable. It's been my experience that you can spook him once and he'll move right back in a couple days. Spook him twice and he will vacate the spot and you won't see him again.
