Dove Huntin'

Love it, don't do it often, as it usually falls during or before an elk hunt. The place we went as kids got shut down by the gravel miners. And too hard to spend time prospecting for a new place given id rather spend the time on deer and elk prospecting.

Great fun when it falls in place...

I have had an "argentina" hunt behind my house for the last 60 years......all the almond trees in this valley have changed that.....there are still lots of doves but lack of flyways and scattered birds has made it more difficult.....

I grew up hunting doves in the central valley, and it was a big event for my family. I moved to Idaho in 71,and up until this year would drive down to see some old hunting buddies and go on our annual dove hunt. But no more, i'm illegal if i bring steel shot across the state line, and no way in hell will i register in that sht state to buy ammo! I have alot of fond memories hunting and fishing their as a kid, but those days are gone!!

This dove season is going to accomplish exactly what the anti-everything fun group has been attempting for years....

....between the background check and steel shot requirements....lots of once a year hunters are throwing in the towel.....

SAD.....

You will hit more with steel 7s than lead unless you are using 4s,and if you cant pass the simple back ground check maybe your back ground is bad, you cant go to canada or get on military bases without one. Our group is taking 3 new shooters and thats a 100% increase from last year. they all got ammo on sale. Between arizona and ca. you wont find a lot better dove shooting. Dont count on all these rules stopping at the edge of ca. I am a hunter and that is why I will be out there shooting doves, I haven't missed the last 45 plus openers and I think being dead will be the only hurdle to keep me away from any openers.

I have been using fiocci 7s,and have been using fiocci for waterfowl and really like the ammo. I have also used kent 7s for dove.

winchester and kent....7's

you really won't notice a difference.....if you have an older fixed choke gun don't use it in anything tighter than modified..

if screw in chokes a skeet will perform same as a modified with lead

So Homer you are saying I shouldn't have my grandson shoot steel shot out of my old Stevens 20 gauge shotgun I bought for $10 when I turned 10.
It will blow the barrel out? LOL

Homer, I have a Remington 1100 12 gauge with the following barrels: 3" mag full, 2 3/4 full, and skeet. I should use the skeet with steel? PC
