Shed Law Passed

Well, looks like its official now, the state passed the shed law dates. No touching an antler in the state of Nevada from Jan 1st til April 15th starting next year. the hunting license or anything else did not get passed however, so good luck NDOW on trying to enforce this stupid law.

Well when you got jackwagons chasing deer and elk on atv's what did you think was going to happen. Not to mention these same idiots can't seem to keep there atv's on the road.

What will the fine be for poaching a shed?
Will it be more for a 4pt than a 2pt? Is there a phone number we can call to report a shed poacher?
Will there be a reward?
How else can this law be enforced?

We have shed antler laws in Wyoming, and there have been fines, its hard to enforce, but it happens.

The dishonest guy just got rewarded with more sheds, the honest guy just took it in the shorts!!!!!!!!!!! Terrible law that less than 1% of poachers will get caught. There are lots of places in Nevada where there are no people to watch. There is a law of no off roading on atv's and they can't even enforce that. Should be easier to catch someone off roading then hiking picking up some sheds. Problem is, a guy can still hike, just not pick up the antlers. Not solving anything!!! Gps, stashes etc.

There is a law against harassing and hazing wildlife! 95% of the almost 55 people that attended the White Pine County Wildlife Advisory Board were opposed to this new law. I thought that these county advisory boards represent the people of their counties in Nevada? I guess not. This is a terrible law period. Show me any data or study that supports that shed horn hunting is hurting wildlife. And if you can, how about NDOW's argument that we have way too many elk and we need to kill as many as we can, just look at the new regulations and the number of elk tags issued. If shed horn hunters are reducing elk numbers (which they are not) then using NDOW's own argument of too many elk in Nevada, then shed horn hunters would be helping out! This is just another way to regulate us out of the woods. What's next, stop hunting because that is surely hurting deer and elk. Start chasing them in August and not let up until after the first of the year? Mark my words, next spring decoy sheds will be placed out and NDOW will be writing tickets on them! We go from no laws about shed horn hunting to the strictest in the nation, go figure.

I think some of the reasoning behind the proposed law is because of excessive atv use on the winter ranges, I know the atver start hitting the Dunphy area driving around in the mud and bothering the wildlife.

Yea you can GPS locations and all that, but a law will cut down on harassment of wildlife, it seems to have worked OK in Wyoming.

Scentpost, you cannot blame NDOW for the cow hunts, you can blame yourself and your fellow sportsmen in Nevada.
NDOW is just following the law, and the elk are over objective because very very few sportsmen spoke up when all the meetings were happening.

I happen to know that many people working for NDOW wish it were different but its not, and you are to blame for the lack of elk.

Piper, you don't make much sense, first you say I'm to blame for the fact that there are too many elk and then you say I'm to balme for the lack of elk. In reality, we do have great numbers of elk in Nevada and we want to keep it that way. My point about all of the elk tags was to show the humor in NDOW's position on the shed horn hunting law. They say we have way too many elk and need to kill them but we need to stop all of the shed horn hunters because they are out in the woods harming them. NDOW needs to make up their minds. Saying we need to put all of these restrictions on honest people because of a few jokers that misuse ATV's is absolutely nonsense. Having a shed horn season that starts the middle of April will do way more harm to the deer and elk herds then spreading the shed horn hunters out over an extended amount of time. When do you think elk and deer have their calves and fawns? It's around that time of the year. If you say it's ok for Wyoming, let's do it in Utah! Make no mistake, NDOW was and is behind this new law that further restricts honest people from enjoying Nevada's outdoors.

I would never say your to blame for too many elk, only that your to blame for the lack of elk in Nevada, you and your optically challenged fellow sportsmen.

Go hiking and enjoy the outdoors, you can pick up the sheds later on, the country is usually a lot drier later anyway, 4 wheelers don't tear things up as much on the winter grounds in mid April as they do in March.

Im sure a lot of you guys are hard core chukar hunters, just think you could be on top of a mountain in bfe and you find the biggest shed of your life, and cant even pack it off the mountain. I use to feel that Ndow was run pretty well. This year has changed my opinion.

Is what it is. NV is just going along with other states. As for the enforcement part.... Be the good guy and help NDOW do their job, I will... I would have been okay with making NON res's not be able to pick up NV bone at all :)

We do need something done about the off-road vehicles. Just saw a Fb post by a few locals with their sheds, motorcycles, and quads; pretty obvious how they went about finding the sheds when you see their pics...

Bingo Dawgs, we don't have a shed horn hunting problem, we have a ATV problem. So why penalize the honest guys and gals out there getting exercise and having fun?

You know I think it's funny that you guys are that one minded about this. A friend of mine had his right leg amputated at his pelvis 3 years ago and to this day he is the most hardcore hunter I know. And picks sheds off his ATV, he doesn't show disrespect to other people out and minds his business and is doing everything he can to make the best of his situation, and best of all he is out there ENJOYING the outdoors just like everyone else is supposed to. So I want to hear what your guys take on it is... GO
