Trail Camera Law

Does anyone know if NDOW has implemented a law pertaining to use of trail cameras. Heard rumors that they had, would like to know.

Thanks

Brownie

RE: Trail Camera Law

July 1st any cameras that transmit directly to computer or phone must be pulled, August 1st all cameras must be removed until Feb

Love the law but I'm sure it won't be followed. Great effort though....

RE: Trail Camera Law

I have no problem destroying one, hammer, rocks, sticks whatever it takes. The way I look at it is they are contraband and illegal and should not be out there.

RE: Trail Camera Law

>I saw several still up last
>week.

Hopefully you took the time to report them. No guarantees anything will come of it but tracking this kind of stuff is important.

RE: Trail Camera Law

I did, they were at guzzlers so easy for me to let them know where they were. I won't be back up there this season to see if they come down. I heard that ndow wont be issuing tickets in 2018, just warnings but next year they will be.

RE: Trail Camera Law

It is hard for me to understand why so many people think that Ndows decision on this is a good thing.
They have taken away your rights. as an american citizen I am disturbed by this. What about the rights of non hunters. you will be breaking the law if you want to use them for security when you leave camp.
There are many reasons to use them other than hunting.
NDOW already has laws that could have taken care of this.
____Using electronic device to aid in taking big game animal____

RE: Trail Camera Law

Quit overreacting, I don't think the dwr will be knocking down your door for a cam looking over your camp.

RE: Trail Camera Law

I think this is a great law. I think trail cameras is one other thing that has made hunters lazy. I hunted for many years before these things even existed, and have never used one since they did. Forcing hunters to get creative and think like a critter is what hunting is all about. When we hunt we are in the game?s house and need to outsmart them in order to be successful. That is how it should be.

RE: Trail Camera Law

you agree to loose personal freedoms because of how you prefer to hunt. what about the freedoms taken away from people that do not hunt.

RE: Trail Camera Law

If you aren't a hunter you are on the wrong forum. Not going to get in a pissing match on here but I will say that Your definition of ?freedom? and mine are obviously very different.

RE: Trail Camera Law

I believe the real reason the law came about was the fact trophy animals were being exploited for money. Sending a GPS location to Joe Blow the sleezy outfitter who then sends you cash in return had led to a new low for those in the outfitting/guiding business. I had heard some were being offered thousands of dollars for pics and locations of trophy animals. Kudos to NDOW for stepping up and making fair chase a top priority. I have hunted Nevada for 32 years with a reasonable amount of success and have never felt the need for the use of a trail camera of any type. Public land fair chase is the name of the game for me, any use of a camera for success would be a huge take away from my overall experience. I wouldn't call it an attack on freedom, just a step in the right direction of maintaining fair chase and preventing exploitation of trophy animals.

RE: Trail Camera Law

And whats the pronoun for a buck with no balls and wants to wear a dress, did he ,( they) get them surgically removed, were they born a female and just have antlers but relate more towards the male gender but wants to dress like a female but society is making them pick , yay lets get into sweet topics on this forum that have no business being here. I have my freedom, MERICA!!!!!!!!

RE: Trail Camera Law

Stupid law. I challenge any of you to put a trail camera up get that pic and go kill that animal. I can't believe anyone is ok with having rights taken away. Next is will be high power binos, range finders, long range guns. Good luck Nevada.

RE: Trail Camera Law

The folks who think this is a ?stupid law? need to take a step back and try thinking about something other than themselves for a minute. How would you like if every time you went to get a drink at home, there were skunks in your kitchen? Or if they weren't actually present, it always lingered of them anyway. Ya, I'd find another place for a drink too.
This isn't about a person?s rights. It's about the animals that we dumb ass humans have affected. As NDOW states, ?the use of cameras have been exploited far beyond most sportsmen?s definition of reasonable.?
Selling GPS coordinates and photos of a trophy animal? There?s a word for that? SCUM!

RE: Trail Camera Law

Selling the GPS is just one step short of guiding someone in to an area where you have found a buck and then helping them spot and kill it...

RE: Trail Camera Law

Nevada is a state made for this law. Arid land where many water holes have a trail cam on every bush. People coming and going all the time. Certainly not nature at its best.

It isn't a ?right? to leave some of your private property on private land. The public gets a say in that. And the public has spoken.

Just get out and hunt and stop worrying about it.

RE: Trail Camera Law

LAST EDITED ON Apr-16-19 AT 07:31PM (MST)[p]I hope this spreads everywhere, with exception being on private land where you should be allowed to hang them 365 if you want. I hate cameras everywhere I go. An eyesore and can't take a piss anymore without scanning the trees. Around here, they are invariably placed over a bait pile. Some way to hunt.

One of the best posts I've seen so far about this law.

Two years ago, there was a guzzler in Lincoln County that had 32 cameras on it. I challenge anyone to come on here and with a straight face, say that's ok and fair chase, and not harming wildlife.

RE: Trail Camera Law

It's not the banning of them for hunting that is the problem.
It's the banning of them from everyone for everything that is the problem

RE: Trail Camera Law

State your example of using one that is not somehow related to hunting.

How about this. I have 4 cameras out right now hoping to document whether or not some sagegrouse still use a remnant lek I found 30 years ago. And I'm doing it just for fun.

Or I have used them to keep am eye on my camp while I'm gone, even when not hunting.

Or I put them along the river near my house just to see what kind of critters are wandering up and down the river corridor at night.

Or I've used them to show my grandkids what animals come to a water source at night. They are homeschooled and it makes for a great science lesson.

It's a very fun hobby and not always about killing a big animal. It can be very educational. But I cant do it except under specific rules and time frames because some people are abusing it. As for 32 cameras on a waterhole, if that does have a negative impact, it's already against the law to harass wildlife.

RE: Trail Camera Law

Fish and game already have other laws to use that covers this issue.
Example it is illegal to use electronic devices to aid in taking big game animals.
