NR 141-145 Archery Early Deer Inquiry

I am looking at this for as an option this year. I will have a couple points going into the 2019 draw. I have hunted area 6 and area 10 a couple times early archery. I am wondering how this hunt is relative to these other units I have hunted. Is there plenty of country for a back packer to get away from pressure? How is the deer herd compared to area 10? Quality versus 10 or 6? Looking for 160-180" type bucks to hunt. I would consider a drop camp as well to get way up and back. Happy to exchange information about 6 or 10.

As a resident I dont waste points on that unit. If I draw it oh well. You cant get away from the people. Second most archery tags given out. You bounce around people to hunt the deer. 180 is a beast in 14. Much larger deer in 6, and easier to get away from people in 10. Not worth the points.

Roberts creek wilderness is in that area. I know a couple guys that swear by that archery hunt and choose that unit over all others. I have been in there a little bit and have seen some decent bucks but it is not an area I put in for. Having said that I don't put in for 10 either. Everybody has their areas of preference and 14 doesn't happen to be one of mine. I have seen numerous 180+ deer come out of there though.

14 is not a wilderness type area.

Roberts Creek, 143, has a small wilderness area, but there are roads that hit every corner of it, and a new mine on the South West side of the mountain. 141 has a lot of mining and drilling activity in the south and a lot of private property in the north. Lots of roads, but good habitat in the middle. 142 doesn't have very many deer at all and is a small mountain range. 144 and 145 hold a lot of deer, but again, lots of access, and you can glass most of 144 from a paved road.

There are plenty of deer. The quality you are seeking is not there on a regular basis. 145 to 160 would be a reasonable top end, with a few that so break that mark.

There are frequently archery tags left over for the second draw.

That being said, I have hunted 141 a fair amount. I usually muzzleloader hunt. I have killed deer, and I enjoy it. But I am not usually looking for a trophy, it's an easy hunt for a nice outing with the family and isn't a back breaker. It is on my application this year as well, but not my first choice, as I like a couple of areas a little better.

Good luck.

Does not sound like my type of hunt, especially if there are at times, 2nd draw potential here and with two BP, better options. Looking for less pressure, that's why I like NV in the first place.

must be different with the rifle season. Hunted it a couple years ago and all it took was to actually get out of the rig and had every place we hiked into all to ourselves. Road hunter city never saw a single person out of a rig or off a atv in 6 days.

There is alot of area in the diamond mtns you can get away from people really easy, You could also backpack in the Diamond peak area on the south end of the unit and do well for a 160 type buck. It is a damn steep rough rugged part of the unit and a guy could coyote out for 3 or 4 days and hunt it hard. You will see very few people if any in this area.

I've never seen another hunter ever north of the diamond mtns up high wether archery, muzzy or rifle.
