Anybody got some pics of these in hand? Was reading about them recently and just curious how many on here have managed to get one killed....

I tried once in the Rubys - it was fun but came up empty. Try the NDOW site for info and pics, or google them - lots of images. Hunt high!

We looked high and low for these birds last year in the Rubies. I hear they are all up high on top but we could not find them.

I am going to hire that guide in the area this year to take us as he is the only one who has been lucky in shooting these birds

They say they are the size of a small turkey and I take that to mean a hen.

They were supposedly turned loose in the area in the 50's at least that is the story I was told and they are still there today.

This is the year we are going to get one of these Snowcock's LOL might as well be Bigfoot

I used to hunt the Rubies many moons ago during archery season when there weren't so many people traipsing around up there. The internet turned it into a hikers/fishing/hunting/horseback destination. That said, back in the 8o's and 90's, I used to see them quite frequently. Seemed like they would wait till I was right on top of them on some rocky bluff and then flush. Scared the crap out of you.

I used to see them up on top of the mountain east of the Lamoille canyon turn around. I'd walk over the top toward Ruby Valley and would jump them every once in awhile. They are about the size of sage hens, probably 5 lbs, give or take a bit.

I have ran across them pretty infrequently since then. My son hunts them and hears them sometimes but doesn't ever catch up to them. He has taken a few ruffed grouse up there though. I think blue grouse are in season then as well. If nothing else, there are a few bighorns and sheep up there to glass. May see a muley or two worth looking at. Pikas are around. Some wild rasberries sometimes. Be worth it too look.

Haven?t hunted them yet but will one of these years when my Sept is free. Did you see the video that Project Upland did? Great video:

And UpChuckar did two extensive podcasts on the hunt.
