Howdy! Just been notified that I drew this tag via the alternate draw. Someone turned the tag back in. When I originally applied I was applying with my son and his buddy. They didn't draw. So now I'm scrambling to get any info on the area that I can. Internet first then asking for any assistance. Thanks guys for any info provided.

Now that's a good hunt!
I killed 218 gross on that hunt in 2015. But then again I don't know what a deer looks like.

Luck did play a small part in it as always but I killed him on the 18th day I was there. It was a grind and took everything I had. I was DIY solo. You can read the story in Muley Crazy magazine.

Find yourself some pinons / junipers and start glassin. Some big bastards in the unit. I'd start in 241 / 242 especially with the water situation this year. Good luck!

Thanks Cass and Buckhorn for the info. Planning on visiting the area next week to just get aquainted with where I'll be concentrating. I have the ON X on my phone and have plotted areas with whatever water sources I could find. I'll spend a few days looking around. Plan on going up again in August to try and find other spots. Wish me luck.

Update on my hunt. Thanks NV Pete. As stated above, received this tag as an alternate. Went in August and did some scouting. Started in 241 and then over to 242. I alway thought water would be the key to finding bucks in this unit, but everywhere I went I found water and horses. Find cows and you have water near by, so for futher hunters just look for cattle. I really couldn't hunt this unit as much as I wanted too. My bust. I had a mountain goat tag and it was number one in my book. I did get 9 total/partial days to hunt and tried to make the most of it. The last two days I saw two real nice bucks. One was 50 yards away while I parked the truck staring at me. I couldn't get out of that truck fast enough, but off he went. Saw him at 1000 yards standing broadside in the PJ's. Wow! Last day, while driving to a vantage point, looking for that huge buck, I saw a small buck. I went after him, but he saw me and left the area. While returning to the truck I saw another buck. His side view I saw 6 points on one side. He looked my way and he was probally 22-24 inch wide. Reached for my rangefinder, oops! I guessed at the range and fired. Deer kepted feeding. This year everything seems to be 500 yards away. I guessed that and when I shot he took off at a dead run. I searched the area for a hit and I couldn't find any. Spent two hours looking for him. Must of gotten close and scared him. I would love to have this tag again, I would hunt allot more. Thanks for all your help that gave some.
