Same situation here, Z. I have that same 111-114 tag. I found a few does but no more than 2 or 3 at a time and yes, the single bucks were out there teasing me. One even jumped out in front of my truck to cross the dirt road I was on just to tease me and I swear, if he had a middle finger, he would have flipped me off with it.
The does are extremely skittish. A pair of them watched me closely from 1,400 yards away then ran behind a hill. I ran to opposite side of the hill to try and intercept them and found them bedded under a tree.
They were almost 500 yards away and it was very windy so I figured I'd stalk in closer for a better shot. I got to 200 yards but I could not find them. They either winded me or heard me climbing.
I then tried to sit at a water hole, but nothing stopped by. On the way to Ely, of course, I see a herd of about 30 lopes relaxing lazily on an ag field. lol
Were you out there this past weekend? I was camped north of Schellbourne. If you saw a green tent on the west side while driving around, it was probably me. I talked to a few locals hunting deer off of Kalamazoo and they gave me a spot to check out but they were talking kind of fast and I did not want to waste their time so I did not check it out.
