Hello,

I'm looking to buy this scope. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this scope? Also, wondering if their are any Leupold retailers on the forum? I know I can go buy this at Scheels, but wondering if there are better deals available?

I debated between this scope and a Nightforce, but think I have decided to go with the Leupold. Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences of those who have used this scope. Thanks

I have two V5 HD CDSs and I have a couple of friends that have the 6Vs. I chose the smaller Leupold over Nightforce because they are lighter and cost less. I am very big into getting my rifles to weigh as little as possible and I don't feel I need the magnification. ( I am weak and old).
I have owned several Leupold CDSs and I have been happy with them, but I especially like the zero stop feature of these new ones. Not a dealer, but I've got some with my Cabelas points when they go on sale.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I looked at the V5?s also and they look like great scopes. Seems the magnification is a bit more helpful to me as I'm getting older and my eyesight isn't as good these days. Like you, it was the lighter weight of the scope that led me to the Leupold over Nightforce. I'm looking to keep my gun light, but have enough scope to get out there a ways if needed.

Have you found the CDS system to be be spot on, assuming you set it to the correct bullet details? I'm considering setting my dial to an elevation of around 6500ft? I'm guessing that may be a good average, as I hunt higher and lower elevations. Have you found the elevation and air density to really make a difference on that dial?

Thanks for your response

I don't have a lot of experience with them, but I have sold a lot of them. Message me the model number and I'll save you some money.

I have two 3-18x50 illuminated reticle and I like them a lot. I like that magnification range because at 3 power, it still is low enough that a close shot won't be nearly impossible. 4 power would be similar to that. The scopes that start at 6 make zero sense to me. I think the glass is good and the build quality is good.

The cds has been spot on for me up to 700 yards on my 300 win mag and 7mm Weatherby mag. I haven't shot longer on the smaller calibers I have cds scopes on but I don't see why they wouldn't be on as well based on my other results. Altitude won't make a huge difference so setting it to 6500 would be perfect. If you set it to 10k feet and then went to sea level, you'd see a difference of maybe an inch at 300 yards, so going from 6500 to 8500 or down to 4500, just won't be significant enough to worry about in most situations. You're mileage may vary there if you're competing in shooting matches or are just really anal about everything.

If they made a vx-5 in a 50mm, I would have taken a serious look at them. My understanding is the 5 and 6 series use the same glass but I may have been given bad info.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-27-19 AT 06:07AM (MST)[p]I have 2 of them, both on .300s.

I've shot paper out to 800 and game to 600+.

Great scores and very easy to gain good results assuming operator input is consistent.

Elevation and air density issues??? I dont think its gonna matter on minute of elk/deer.

I've had a V6 3-18 for a few years now and I really like the scope. I was shooting primarily a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22 before that and really like the glass on the Leupold, especially at lower light.

And I don't have the CDS - just a straight 1/4MOA dial but unless you're planning to hunt and shoot at critters out past 500-600 yards, setting up a CDS for 6000' feet would still cover you up or down a long ways. If you're going to hunt past that distance, I'd either be getting more than one CDS or stick to simply dialing an MOA turret.

Thanks all for sharing your experience and comments on this scope. It has been helpful. I'm going to pull the trigger and get it. I think I have a good retailer lined up to get the scope. Looking forward to trying this glass. Thanks again for he comments

Well I don't have the leupold V6 HD 4-24x52 scope but I own a Leupold VX-R Rifle Scopes and The VX-R is loaded with technology to make this an extraordinary scope. The high quality Index Matched Lenses will give the shooter amazing clarity and brightness. The Ballistic FireDot illuminated reticle has 8 brightness settings so in a lowlight setting you will not worry about a reticle that is too bright. Quality lenses are maximized by the 30mm diameter tube, and a 4.2 inch eye relief will make this one of the most comfortable riflescopes you have ever shot.
these scopes in general are good and 100 percent reliable
