My brother, dad and I are hoping to do a self guided Sitka Blacktail hunt on Kodiak in 2021. I found Raspberry Island Lodge that looks like a decent outfit but they won't provide a reference list. I found that kind of weird/alarming.

Has anyone on here hunted with Raspberry Island Lodge and if so would you recommend us go with them? We are also looking into hunting them from a boat/yacht but this post is more specifically about Raspberry Island lodge.

Thank you in advance for reading and for any answers that might be provided.

You may also want to do a "google" search for Raspberry island lodge reviews. there is about 70 or more reviews for the lodge in tripadvisor and facebook. It seems they cater mostly to persons wanting to fish. The reviews I saw were mostly good to very good.

RELH

Search YouTube as well, tons of videos on that hunt complete with outfitters. Looks like a fun hun!

I'm going with C&M Marine this November, I can give you a review after I'm back... They came highly recommended from some local guy's up that way...

thank you for the responses. They do have lots of great reviews online but I was finally able to turn up a repeat client of theirs. He has nothing but great things to say about them and was the last straw to me making my decision. We will be booking in the next month or two.

thank you again for your responses.

I did a fishing trip with Raspberry island lodge about 10-12 years ago. It was operated by a couple named Lee Robbins and his wife. They raised their family there. They divorced and sold the lodge to their son. It is a beautiful place and an amazing lodge. I would recommend it in a heartbeat for fishing which is what they specialize in. They had a flats boat(the type used in florida for bonefish) for fly fishing salmon and I have never had more fun fishing than I did there.

For a blacktail hunt I would look elsewhere. They don't specialize in hunting and it's a pretty good boat ride from Raspberry island to Kodiak island. My daughter and I did a do-it-yourself blacktail hunt on Kodiak island November/December of 2017. We had a great time, learned a lot of do's and don'ts. Killed three bucks and could have taken more. We had a blast and after a week of staying at the hunting lodge we flew back to Kodiak (the town) and rented a U-haul van for a week to camp in, see the road system and hunt fox. The night before our plane ride home we buried that van good and spent all night trying to get out without any tools or recovery gear. Lots of memories on that trip :) Seeing all the old WW2 bunkers and installations was cool in itself.

For a blacktail hunt on Kodiak, timing is everything. It's feast or famine depending on the previous winter or two. The problem with that is you usually have a place (transporter/guide) booked before you know what the last winter did.

Deadibob, Thank you for your response. Sounds like you guys had a good time. I don't believe they actually hunt Kodiak. I Believe they stick to Raspberry Straight and Afognak rather than actually hunting Kodiak itself because of how far it is.

From what I heard last year the deer numbers were way down due to a harsh winter. It is a bummer that you have to book in advance and hope the winters are mild, but not a lot we can do about that part of it.

Did you kill any foxes?

I've booked a self guided hunt on Kodiak.
11/30 thru 12/5.
With sportsmens lodge.
Going solo.
They prefer two pre party for safty.
But my died beat hunt friends won't come.
So I'll do it myself.

Tikka - I know that it is a long shot that you will see this, but how did your hunt with C&M go? I am looking into booking for 2022 and they seem to be a great choice from what I have come across so far.

Great folks! I’m going back this November with them... you’re welcome to send me a pm and we can chat offline if you want...

I suspect they are so busy they don't care if you come or not.....so...they don't waste the time forwarding anything to you......

not the best business practice but I get it....
