Fate of your trophies

I went to an estate auction Friday and saw a beautiful 4 point buck trophy sell for $60 - guess no one in the family had any interest.

Looks like when I Die somebody's gonna get a couple hundred dollars!:D

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

Yep. Stop by a yard sale couple weeks ago and picked up 37 racks for $40 bucks. One was a B&C net buck! Treasure to be found and so little time.

I dont have to worry so much about that anymore. Somewhere in that pic are remains of every head, antler set and hide I ever had.

Think it speaks to what I've always thought, if I didnt kill it, if the story that goes with it isn't mine, it has little value to me.

Yep, I'm sure when I die the old trophies will have zero value to me and very little more than that to anyone else.
We are a somewhat selfish bunch.

I've told the wife and kids, keep what you want (if any), sell what you can, pitch the rest, done! It's not any more complicated than that.

Now, firearms are a slightly different story. I'm taking some with me so I can hunt all those heavenly 200" bucks, 400" bulls and 200" rams! The family can sell the rest.

Wow feddoc what a horrible site and one that I'm very familiar with.

I'm sorry to see what happened to your house and trophies Feddoc, we always talk about what is going to happen to our trophies, there could be nothing worse than loosing everything in your life to a fire. I am 60 years old now and have not thought about this for 40 years, when I was around 10 years old I would walk around our house and admire my dads sheep heads and he had quite a few. As a matter of fact I think he had the only sheep heads in the town we lived in. Our house burned down and they lost everything. If I close my eyes I can still see those great sheep hanging on the walls.

Yikes. Glad I chose to go with 5/8? drywall instead of OSB in my garage. Under construction now.

Didn't lose the house at all. Just the two story barn and a lot of stuff inside.

The biggest loss was my dads bed roll from the 50s.

I watched a show about trophy log homes. One of the homes featured was full of nice mounts. He told the camera that he didn't hunt. He said when a husband dies those are the first things to go. Wifes can't wait to get them out of the house and they sell cheap.

I have the same plan on taking some guns with me. I have carried a 1911 everyday for most of my life. Told my wife to slip a 1911 in my waistband at my funeral. She said she would let me take one of the Colts, but no way was she letting me get buried with the Wilson Combat. LOL. Smart gal. Now I need to figure out how to get buried with my favorite rifle.

Exactly why i quit taking stuff to the taxidermist a few years ago. Would rather have that money be spent on memories and new adventures, rather than another mount on the wall.

Same here I don't mount anything. All I do is a skull mount. Between the costs to get a shoulder mount and then having to deal with the dust it collects and then the pain in transporting them when you move...it's not worth it to me.
