After a Mere 23 Years I Drew my Moose Tag

After getting a notice of a pending $413
Charge on my card I knew my son or I had drawn Wasatch Moose. He had 5 and I had 23 points and with my luck I figured it was him. Finally got the email to confirm I had drawn the tag. About that time I realized work had me scheduled to be in California the day after the opening for 2 weeks. I have helped friends on their elk hunts and use to bow hunt elk up there along time ago. For those that have hunted Moose is it better the first or last half of the hunt? Is the rut better late? I have all summer to look around and scout but would welcome any suggestions. Thanks and can't wait to start looking and learning.

Best Re-Schedule that Work Schedule!:D

A Guy Can Work anytime!:D

What are the Hunt Dates?

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

Sept. 14th thru Oct. 17th.

I'm suppose to go for training on some New Equipment we're installing. If hunting is better the last half I might try and go or see if they can send someone else. Would like to give this hunt every chance for success.

Camper_A1, I would contact the state Fish and Wildlife office and try to ascertain who the local warden is for your hunt area and hopefully get contact information for him.
Give him a call and explain your position and there is a good chance he will give you information that help you make the correct decision.

When I hunted Wyoming, the local wardens were a great source of useful information. Even gave me information on which rancher to contact that had good animals and were reasonable in their trespass fees if the public land was overrun with hunters.

I can't see where there's even a question? I always look at it this way.

How many moose tags have you had?

How many jobs have you had?

We have a clear winner. You only have one life but there's tons of jobs. Hunt the whole season. Duh....

The best strategy I have seen is to locate a monster bull before the season and then be in position to dump him first thing on opening morning.

The year I had a moose tag, the bulls were pretty scarce and they got harder and harder to find as the season progressed.

Good luck that will be a fun hunt! If you cant hunt the first 2 weeks you will still be fine! The end of that hunt is always the best! Cant wait to see you put a moose down!

Congrats on the tag. I would think the earlier the better because someone else may shoot the moose you are after. The Early bird gets the worm! My son drew a Wasatch muzzle elk so I will be in the same area. If I see a good bull moose I will let you know.

In alaska the best time or most rut active is sept, 20, If the best bull on the mtn is what you want ,then you only have one choice, if any bull will do than any time of the season.Good luck with a great tag.

First day back at work since I drew and visited with my boss. He hunts once in a while so he was pretty understanding says he'll send someone else to training. Come on September!

Good to have a boss that hunts! I work for a few builders that don't and they're shocked every October and November when they can't get ahold of me.
