Hey just a reminder before we hit the mountain hard coming up. Check all your gear for safety's sake. That means everything from tree stands, safety harness, batteries in things like locator beacons, GPS etc, weapons, ammo and ARROWS!

Yesterday I was shooting one of my few remaining carbon arrows up on the mountain (usually shoot FMJ's). It must have had a crack in the back half. It broke on the shot sending a piece into my thumb. It's just a little uncomfortable right now!!! Really bad timing and I feel dumb not testing or inspecting it! Needless to say I'm not getting some important scouting in right now. Actually just went back up there and somehow found the piece that went in my thumb. Can see the piece of my glove in the end.

Stay safe out there.

Oh crap! I worry about that all the time with my carbon arrows. I'm always flexing them to check for cracks. Hopefully I'm doing it right. ?????
You're lucky it wasn't worse!!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-19 AT 08:37PM (MST)[p]Safety is primary. Im glad this thread was started, not only inspect your equipment, but please, knkw how to use it properly, and take the time to do it right. When Littlebuck, fell out of stand, she had all her safety equipment ,in good working order. When she got sick, and decided to climb down, she unhooked her tree belt, and used the carabiner as a handle to pull herself up to her feet. She hadent hooked on her safety belt, when she stood up she passed out, letting go of the carabiner. 4 broken vertiba in her neck. Life changing. Please, please be carful folks.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-20-19 AT 11:18PM (MST)[p]A friend of mine, Marvin Carlston who was the founder of Gold Tip arrows, developed a shooting glove called PROTX. It has Kevlar right where your arrow hit your hand and would have prevented it from penetrating. I don't shoot without that glove anymore. I've seen this happen to a couple people and once it happens you will develop a flinch that you will never overcome.

It's very cheap insurance and peace of mind.
