Why go with the same outfitter?

I curious to hear your thoughts.

In Africa only, not the states, why would you go back to the same country to hunt with the same outfitter more than once?

I have been three times, to three countries, with three different outfitters.

I would recommend all three and had an A+ experience with all of them.

I will most likely never go back with them for basically one reason. I want to see new countries, places, species, cultures, terrains, fauna and flora, etc.

Africa is so big it is not possible to see much of it at all so I really have zero interest only seeing the same place each time.

The best advice I ever received for Africa was to never hunt the same place twice. After my first trip, I thought it was bogus, after my second trip, I understood why.

What are your thoughts? If you go back to the same place time and time again; why?

My first trip to Namibia was fantastic. Could not have asked for a better trip. Loved the areas and people, and made many good friends. Took about 10-11 huge trophies. My second trip I went back with the same people and area, but dedicated 14 days to hunting a huge leopard specifically, and took an additional half dozen animals I had not seen on the first trip. I took my wife along that time and introduced her to the nicest people I know..

The third trip was to Zimbabwe during the height of the Mugabe problems, for elephant and buffalo. She did not go on that one because of concerns for their general safety, On the fourth trip we went with the same outfitter in Namibia but to a totally different one million acre native conservancy, and had another amazing time.....

The key here is not the outfitter, but the experiences. Making memories is the important part. My next trip was to RSA but with a friend of the other PH. Different area, different people and animals, Still remarkable experience.

Joel, I hope your are doing well. Any big plans this year? I am taking Jax to the Dark Continent next year for his first safari. He won't find out until Xmas.

Chat soon, Justin

That will be the trip of a lifetime for him. Know it will be wonderful. Good luck on some monsters. Trying to figure out another trip with friends to Moz; still would like a sable and monster nyala.

So far this year I am hunting Kansas and WY whitetails, Texas for deer and fishing. Hope to draw some good tags here at home. Bought a chance for the grizzly hunt, and I am sure I will draw that!!! :)

Need to go down to AZ and call archery bulls for Paul in late September too.

I agree with your premise. There is much to see and do in Africa (the world!) and no one person or group covers it all.

My first trip was to RSA, and I went with a friend. Returned the next year to the same PH and general area, this time with my wife and kids. Going to the same area gave me some reassurance when taking my family. I have been now a total of 11 trips, and nearly always with someone different, in a different area.

One of the more special trips was when my wife and I returned to the exact same farm 10 years after our first visit there. We had a great trip both times, and saw how much and how little things had changed in 10 years.

I am now planning a second trip to a ranch in Namibia that I hunted 6 years ago. We had a special trip there and are looking forward to a repeat.

So of my 11 trips, 2 have been repeat and I will plan a third. I will also continue to go to new places. But especially when traveling with my wife, I don't always need unknown adventures, and find we still enjoy more "known territory.

So while I agree, most people should go with different PH's and to different areas and countries, there are times to return to a specific location more than once.

Bill

It is good for business to go with the PH you know and trust and it is good for you to see new areas and environments...
