Let's see your Hartebeest

A very funny story comes with my first Hartebeest. We were driving around and a beautiful bull jumps up from the brush by a termite mound, staggers and falls down, runs in circles while spinning and stumbling. PH and my video cameraman jump out of Land Cruiser yelling "Grab your rifle", and off they go. I do the same and take off thru the waist high yellow grass, loading and shooting each chance we get. Put the bull down finally, and it its a pretty nice one.

I ask what the hell just happened and they say "It was bitten by a mamba, and we didn't want it to suffer!!! I pointed out that it was a friggin stupid thing to do and ask if we are all crazy??? There's a snake in the grass and we jump OUT? Turns out that the black mambas live in the termite mounds, and when HB rub on them they get bit in the face a lot. I stopped climbing on termite mounds that day, and have never climbed another. :)

I don't think I would shot one of those ugly beasts even if it was free. LOL
Well maybe I would shoot one for bait.

From my 2017 trip. It was not something I was thinking of going after until I saw one in person. Only seen them in pictures and on TV.

Here is mine...when I had him scored he was #15 in the SCI Record book. That was in 2002, not sure where he stands now.
