This year is pretty similar except for no Wyoming tag. In fact, it will be the first year since 2006 that I didn't have a Wyoming tag. This is mostly due to the fact that my wife and I had our first baby 3 weeks ago. I just didn't want to spend the money on an out of state tag right now. I've had some great hunts up there. 2007 - mule deer, 2008 - antelope, 2009 - cow elk, 2010 - antelope, 2011 - whitetail.

This year I have:
1. rifle tag for the Cache Unit
2. Cache - Richards hollow cow elk tag that I just found out that I drew.
3. OTC any bull elk rifle (will buy).

I put in for:
1. Cache South LE elk (unsuccessful)
2. Nanny goat willard peak (unsuccessful)

J. has:
1. Muzzleloader tag for the Cache Unit
2. OTC any bull elk rifle.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-02-12 AT 12:55PM (MST)[p]I live in Logan, UT, and I am a graduate student at USU. Last year was my first year hunting in Northern Utah. My friend (we will call him "J") and I both had northern region rifle tags and OTC rifle bull elk tags. I also had a pretty good Wyoming deer tag.

The OTC elk tag was a blast and a lot of hard work. We did our homework and did a bunch of scouting. It payed off with this 5x5 bull the first day of the hunt.

The northern region deer tags were just "ok" as was expected. I shot a small buck that tasted delicious.

My wyoming deer tag went well. My tag was good for a whitetail or a muley. I wanted a big muley really bad, but we just weren't seeing anything worth notching that tag over. We saw some 3X4 bucks, but they were pretty small. I ended up taking this 11 pt whitetail and I am happy with him. It is the first whitetail I have shot.

Next post....2012 plans....

J had a trail cam up for about a week in our deer unit. We were hoping to get some pictures of a good buck or two but didn't have any luck.

We got a pic of what I think is a spike bull and then a cow.

Nothing too exciting. J is moving the cam to a new spot soon.
