CO Application Help

Yes. Have to put it and the $10 habitat stamp on your cart and then it will let you apply.

Yes you still have to buy the tag just to get a point. No more PP fees though for elk, deer, antelope, bear. $100 more per point if you apply for moose/goat/sheep though

As a nonresident it will cost you $100.75 to buy a point for one species. Then $9 more per species

And the frog gets boiled alive with new costs each year

I'm surprised how many questions there are about how to apply and what the costs are. The information is all over the parks and wildlife website it's also in the proclamation where it lists all the new changes for 2019 and in bold red letters throughout the whole application process online. It's not that difficult guys, take 3 minutes to read.

Thats interesting. My total came to 90 bucks and some change. Oh no?
I HAVE NO PROBLEM APPLYING ONLINE WITH OTHER STATES. Colorado is the most difficult for a NR. Seems to me that the last three years of applying has been different each year.

Do you have a lifetime habitat stamp or are you over 65? If so you don't have to buy the stamp. So would be $90.75. Otherwise it should be $100.75 if you applied or bought a point for one species.

You are definitely right about being different the last 3 years. It has been. They had to tweek it to get the most money out of us.

If you think Colorado?s is difficult you haven't applied through AZ. It's terrible!

Can?t complain to much as I drew a unit 10 elk tag.

Still the AZ website needs a makeover

My total for a deer point was $100.75.

I called the CPW to confirm I was doing it right, and at first was told yes, but I would be charged an additional $40 at the time of the draw. Then was told never mind, the additional fee is only for sheep, moose, and goats and is $100.

I agree that CO makes it confusing, their own employees couldn't give me a good solid answer.

Those employees are dumb as posts. Very disappointing to try and ask a question and 9 out of 10 dont have a clue about anything

The only sure thing in Colorado's application process is it will surely change next year, and it'll probably cost more!

Last year the CPW didn't charge much to apply plus applicants didn't need to up-front the license fee for sheep, goat, and moose. There was a lot of complaints from the huge increase in applicants with 0 pts that applied.

I'm sure the same thing will be true with deer, elk, and antelope since applicants (especially Colo residents) only have to up-front a small game license plus small application fee/species. It's obvious the CPW didn't learn from what happened 2 years ago!

At over a $100 for a deer point now, I'm sure the point creep will slow up some.
I know if I was just starting out, I definitely wouldn't be buying points for the next 15-20 years.

I hope ridgetops is correct and the new format will have an impact on point creep. The last 3 years applying have all been different. 1st year had to pay license cost upfront, 2nd year was like $3 per species + habitat stamp, 3rd year is 91.25 + $9 per species.

I for one, living within a couple of hours of my deer area and close to the border, plan on using my small game license. Look out squirrels, I believe they have some Abert's squirrels I can hunt close by.

So I'm in the same boat and didn't like seeing the increase to apply for points. However, if you play your cards right and if I understand correctly (someone tell me if i'm wrong) you will only have to buy a small game license every other year because the license is good through March 31, 2020. That's assuming CPW doesn't change anything for the coming years. So I think the cost will eventually stay the same if you are just looking to build points. I did the same thing when I was a NR building points for Utah, I just bought a hunting license every other year which keeps the cost down. Hopefully that helps in your decision.

That would be great if that were the case. I know it does work that way in Utah but I think Colorado will require you to have that current year?s license in order to apply for the game

Buckhorn is correct. It is not Like Utah. You will have to buy a new $80 license every year. That is why you had to buy the 2019 license this year even if you had a 2018 license already

I did see that once I went through the whole application process and bought my points. That's a bummer for sure which will most likely make me look to use my points every 2-3 years vs. trying to build up for more coveted tags (very spendy tag after 10-15+ yrs building points). I'd rather hunt more often rather than 1-2 times in my lifetime in CO. Thanks for the correction.

Ya I'm done playing the western states game.I going save my money and buy land owner tags every 4 or 5 years. It will be close to the same money as buying points every year. And you don't have to go through all BS putting in for different states at different times, and have small game license that are worthless.
