Man without a land

I had a near perfect life when we lived in Glendo Wyoming until I was offered a promotion and we moved to a state park near Moab, Utah. My wife and I are both from Utah.

Long story short, I am a man without a land this year so I decided to burn my preference points on a third season rifle deer tag in western Colorado. The unit I drew can be really good if it snows and a terrible hunt if it is hot. Time will tell.

Either way, it is the only hunt I have planned for myself this year. I do have a friend who drew a mountain goat tag, I may pick up a general elk tag if I have time, and we have a whole bunch of general deer tags in the family.

I don't plan on posting a lot in my HAC thread until the hunts start because I won't be scouting very often.

Stay tuned!

Mountain goat hunt

I went mountain goat hunting with a friend and he brought a huge 10 year old billie goat off the mountain opening day. His goat was so fat it could barely walk. Of course he rolled 500 feet downhill after he was shot, but nothing broke when he tumbled.

I hiked 22 miles in 32 hours from when I left my vehicle to when we came off the mountain with heavy packs. It was exhausting, but totally worth it.

I hope I draw my goat tag next fall.
