My 65 year old dad drew his RM Sheep. Rattlesnake, Books south. Hunt starts nov. 1, ends nov. 30.

I have hunted books/bcreek most my life. ventured in the south area years ago. We are fairly green on sheep. From what i remember, we saw them above the river. I guess i'm looking for any pointers, tips, etc. on this unit and sheep in general.

We will be doing a lot of scouting, and getting lay of the lad prior.

I wish I could help w/ info. Is this one of the sheep units that is conducive to floating the river to scout/hunt?

Are you suggesting that your dad is OLD by posting his age? He's MY age and that makes him just a pup!

Congrats to yer pa on the awesome tag and enjoy the adventure with him while you can.

I've been out there on the hunt a few times. Drive the green river. You?ll only be able to hunt one side. But I've seen some of the better rams be on that side.

Congrats to your father Rubbie! In my book sheep hunts are as good as it gets.
I've hunted sheep a fair amount but never on that unit. What I will suggest is, make sure you have good optics and spend time (more time than you want) behind them. Sheep are deceptively hard to spot, even in that treeless country. They lay up in little pockets sometimes out of sight, so don't get too anxious to move on from one spotting point to another.
Some people I know who've drawn that tag have hiked up high where they could glass places you can't see from below, so driving the green river could get you a ram, but don't be stuck on that as your only option.
The tail end of that hunt gets you well into the rut, so if you find ewe groups without rams, make a mental note and return later. Rams are on the move when the rut gets going.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Hi there, My dad drew the same tag about three years ago. He was 74 years old at the time and he did great. I can tell you everything about his hunt if you like, just let me know. You could probably find the story in the old archives here if they keep that long. It will be a great time! Everyone is right about sheep hunting, it is the BEST.
